Last night's Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's ODETTA premiere performance was star studded with guests including Harry Belafonte, Laverne Cox, Jessye Norman, Carmen de Lavallade, Bevy Smith, Suzanne Vega, Ruben Santiago Hudson, Michela Angela Davis, Khalil Kain, Rochelle Aytes, Pastors Michael A Walrond Jr., and Reverend LaKeesha Waldrond attending Matthew Rushing's world premiere. On June 12, 2013, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, one of the world's most popular dance companies, kicked off its seven performance engagement at the David H. Koch Theater. On September 15th, Ailey II will embark on a 31-city world tour with 21 domestic stops includingKansas City, MO; Fayetteville, NC; Boulder, CO and Columbus, OH. The international portion of Ailey II's tour will take them to Neuss Germany and nine French cities including Cannes, Beauvais and Toulon (full schedule on page two). New Artistic Director Troy Powell will build upon Ailey II's remarkable tradition and bring a fresh dimension to this beloved company during his inaugural season.
