Last night's Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's ODETTA premiere performance was star studded with guests including Harry Belafonte, Laverne Cox, Jessye Norman, Carmen de Lavallade,Bevy Smith, Suzanne Vega, Ruben Santiago Hudson, Michela Angela Davis, Khalil Kain, Rochelle Aytes, Pastors Michael A Walrond Jr., and Reverend LaKeesha Waldrond attending the world premiere of Matthew Rushing's. Fittingly, ODETTA, which celebrates the legendary singer known as the "voice of the Civil Rights Movement." premiered on National Human Rights Day. Fans can catch ODETTA seven more times this season: Dec 13 Mat, 14 eve, 18 eve, 20 eve, 26, 28 eve, 31 mat.

The Company continues its five-week New York City Center engagement with a Tuesday, December 17th performance celebrating the Women of Ailey, who are renowned for their inspiring performances. The special program includes the season's only performances of Alvin Ailey's tour-de-force solo Cry and Ulysses Dove's powerful female ensemble work Vespers, along with Night Creature and Revelations.

In addition to the company premiere of Jacqulyn Buglisi's mesmerizing ensemble piece Suspended Women on Friday, December 12th; other upcoming 3rd week performance highlights includeAiley/Ellington (Dec 17, 21mat, Jan 3 mat) and "All New" programs (Dec 18, 20 eve, 26, 28 eve, 31 mat).
