Four members of Jon Royal's ensemble of actors - Breanna Booker, Alicia Haymer, DeYonte Jenkins and Shawn Whitsell - made time this week, amid the hustle and bustle and general bedlam of technical rehearsals to give us some insight into the factors and events that led them to the theater and to share with readers the reasons why they think you should see Citizen: An American Lyric.

The 21st Annual Roger Ebert's Film Festival, co-founded and hosted by Chaz Ebert and also known as 'Ebertfest,” announced today the final slate of films for the 2019 event.  

Roundabout Theatre Company will host their fifth annual Casino Night, at the American Airlines Theatre (227 W. 42nd St). All proceeds benefit Roundabout Theatre Company's many programs, including the Education programs, the Theatrical Workforce Development Program and Artist Residencies.

Contra Costa Civic Theatre (CCCT) today announced the cast for its upcoming production of All the Way, directed by CCCT Artistic Director Marilyn Langbehn. Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Schenkkan's "action-packed, thoroughly gripping…jaw-dropping political drama" (Variety) about the first year of Lyndon Johnson's presidency plays April 12 through May 5 at CCCT. The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) announces today that Nataki Garrett will become its sixth artistic director in August 2019, succeeding Bill Rauch. The announcement by OSF Emeritus Board Chair and Search Committee Chair Gail Lopes ends a nearly yearlong search.

After a 14 year hiatus the bad boys of Shakespeare took to the stage and command the stage they did. For the next 90ish minutes the audience was thrust into a world of side-splitting head over heels laughter. Jobsite's Artistic Director David Jenkins entered the space with a hilarious curtain speech. One of the most memorable moments was when he said, "We are in a small space, so if you're talking and thinking you can't be heard you can… and if anyone came with a child shut the little bastard up and let them fend for themselves." Introducing the facts that over the next hour and a half the audience will be thrust into a world unknown to some, a place of Elizabethan England; Stratford on Avon to be exact, and thus he went forth and introduced all of the players that would be seen that evening.

Lion Heart Productions Escanaba in da Moonlight is a tale that director, Mike Gesler has been waiting a long time to present at Lion Heart as a director, and the timing just fell into place for this season. It is a show full of comedic moments that will have you laughing in your seats. Escanaba in da Moonlight is currently running until March 24 at the Dogwood Center for the Performing Arts in Fremont. Shows are March 23rd at 2pm, March 23rd at 7:30pm, and March 24th at 2PM.

State Theatre New Jersey presents RENT - 20th Anniversary Tour for three performances on Tuesday, April 2 at 8pm, Wednesday, April 3 at 8pm, and Thursday, April 4 at 8pm. Tickets range from $35-$98.

The Shakespeare Project of Chicago presents a special production of MOBY DICK-REHEARSED, Orson Welles's adaption of Herman Melville's novel, for two performances: March 15 at the Niles-Maine District Library and March 16 at the Newberry Library. The theatrical reading is part of the Newberry's special exhibition celebrating the 200th anniversary of Melville's birth - 'Melville: Finding America at Sea.' Admission is free and registration is required at both venues.

Rep Stage, the professional regional theatre in residence at Howard Community College, will launch its 2019-2020 season with "Souvenir" by Stephen Temperley, followed by a world premiere by local playwright Bob Bartlett and a regional premiere by Philadelphia playwright James Ijames, and then conclude with the timeless musical "Dames at Sea."

They've dusted off their trunks full of everything from skulls to skirts and daggers to dinosaurs for a revival of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised] running Mar. 15 - Apr. 7 in the Shimberg Playhouse at the Straz Center, where Jobsite is resident theater company. Having shrunk Willy's wit and wisdom into manageable morsels of madness, they tear around the stage in doublets and Converse on a riotous romp through all 37 of Shakespeare's plays plus the sonnets all in an hour and a half.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company announced today the full casting for the world premiere of MS. BLAKK FOR PRESIDENT, co-written by ensemble members Tina Landau (SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical) and Tarell Alvin McCraney (Moonlight, Academy Award). Conceived by Tina Landau, she also directs this true and little-known Chicago story that will star Tarell Alvin McCraney as Ms. Joan Jett Blakk. Joining McCraney in the cast are Patrick Andrews, Molly Brennan, Daniel Kyri, Jon Hudson Odom and Sawyer Smith.
