Last night, July 26, the Town Hall hosted ALL SINGIN' ALL DANCIN,' an exhilarating extravaganza of song and dance directed and choreographed by Jeffrey Denman (YANK!, WHITE CHRISTMAS). Inspired by the legendary Broadway dance of The Astaires, Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson, Gower Champion, Bob Fosse, and Jerome Robbins, the show consisted of original choreography created exclusively for the concert and was set to some of the greatest show music ever written including 'Slaughter on Tenth Avenue' and 'Cell Block Tango.' The Gallery Players' productions of the new musical Top of the Heap and the first New York City revival of Caroline, or Change each received a nomination for Outstanding Production of a Musical.
With a title like Broadway Winners, and the simple concept of presenting songs from award-winning musicals (or songs that have won Grammys or Oscars in their own right), it's a fairly safe bet that a concert is going to be pretty damn great. And so it was at Town Hall on Monday, when Scott Siegel's Summer Cabaret Festival kicked off with the latest edition of the concert series. Directed by Alexander Gemignani and with musical direction by David Hahn, the concert focused on musical triumphs, and that sense of accomplishment carried across the evening as each song's pedigree was announced.
The Town Hall presents the Fourth Annual Summer Broadway Festival created, written and hosted by Scott Siegel for The Town Hall.
