The Theater Project to Present Three School-Centered Plays Next Month

The Theater Project may be on a mission to find out whether there's a limit to the number of roles one actor can play in a single production. Each of the next three plays presented by The Theater Project will challenge a cast member's metamorphosis quotient.

The Denver Center Theatre Company presents the highly anticipated new adaptation of Meredith Willson's classic musical, THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN. Based on the book by Richard Morris, the revitalized production will feature a new book and additional lyrics by three-time Tony Award nominee Dick Scanlan (Thoroughly Modern Millie) and showcase never before heard songs from Willson's prolific body of work with musical adaptation by Michael Rafter(Violet). Idle Muse Theatre Company Opens 9th Season with DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE

2014 IVEY AWARDS Honor Illusion Theater Directors, Tyler Michaels and More

For the first time in the Iveys' 10-year history, two people will share the Lifetime Achievement Award. Michael Robins and Bonnie Morris, co-producing directors of Illusion Theater, were honored at the celebration of Twin Cities theater on September 22 at the Historic State Theatre in downtown Minneapolis. Versatile actor-singer-dancer-improviser Tyler Michaels received the Emerging Artist Award.

William Inge Center for the Arts Welcomes Karen Carpenter as New Interim Artistic Director

Karen Carpenter, a producer, director and teacher, a theater-maker for more than 30 years, has been appointed the interim Artistic Director of the William Inge Center for the Arts and the 34th Annual William Inge Theatre Festival. The Inge Festival is the Official Theater Festival of the State of Kansas, hosted on the campus of Independence Community College, which houses the William Inge archives.

2014 Young Playwrights Festival Lineup Announced and Set for 10/4 & 10/5

City Theatre is pleased to present the 2014 Young Playwrights Festival, October 4 and 5 in City Theatre's Hamburg Studio. Featuring original, one-act plays written by select middle and high school playwrights from Western Pennsylvania and Northern West Virginia, the 15th annual Festival showcases professional productions of six winning scripts chosen from over 300 Young Playwrights Contest submissions.

Beth Malone Takes on Title Role in DCTC's THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN, Beginning Tonight

Beth Malone, a Parker native, will play the coveted title role in the 'refreshed' launch of the famous Broadway musical, THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN, beginning at the Denver Center Theatre Company (DCTC) tonight, Sept. 12. The staging is helmed by three-time Tony winner Kathleen Marshall and written by three-time Tony nominee Dick Scanlan.

Illusion Theater to Present JEFFREY HATCHER'S HAMLET, 10/2-25

JEFFREY HATCHER'S HAMLET, the latest piece by Minnesota's own acclaimed playwright, was originally seen in a workshop as part of the Illusion Theater's 2013 Fresh Ink series. Last winter, it hit the road for a successful tour throughout Minnesota. Now, the one-man show comes full circle, back at the Illusion for its premiere and first full-run staging from October 2-25 during the theater's 40th anniversary season. In Jeffrey Hatcher's Hamlet, the year is 1967.

Theatre of NOTE to Present West Coast Premiere of BANSHEE, 10/3

Theatre of NOTE continues its 2014 season with the West Coast premiere of BANSHEE,written by Brian C. Petti and directed by James R. Carey. BANSHEE will preview Friday, September 26 and Saturday, September 27, and will open on Friday, October 3 at 8pm and run through Saturday, November 1 at Theatre of NOTE, 1517 N. Cahuenga Blvd (just north of Sunset) in Hollywood.

Good Theater Opens 13th Season with THE RAINMAKER, Opening 10/1

Good Theater, the professional theater company in residence at the St. Lawrence Arts Center, 76 Congress Street, Portland, has announced the start of its 13th season. Opening October 1 and running through October 19 will be N. Richard Nash's acclaimed classic, THE RAINMAKER.

Geva Theatre Center Presents WAIT UNTIL DARK, Now thru 10/5

Audiences will be on the edge of their seats when Geva Theatre Center presents Wait Until Dark by Frederick Knott, adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher and directed by David Ira Goldstein. Wait Until Dark begins performances tonight, September 9 and runs in the Elaine P. Wilson Mainstage through October 5.

BWW Reviews: WAIT UNTIL DARK Is Worth Seeing - and Hearing - at Northwest Classical

Their production of Wait Until Dark is based on a revised script by Jeffrey Hatcher that premiered in 2013. The original, by Frederick Knott, opened in 1966 and was set at that time; this version is backdated to the 1940s. The loot is slightly different, and there are a few four-letter words added to the text, but beyond these cosmetic touches the script is the same.

Cincinnati Playhouse Stages SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE ADVENTURE OF THE SUICIDE CLUB, Now thru 10/4

The world's most famous fictional sleuth adds a novel chapter to his repertoire with playwright Jeffrey Hatcher's electrifying new whodunit SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE ADVENTURE OF THE SUICIDE CLUB, which opens the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park's 55th season. The play is an inventive mash-up of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's iconic characters and the Robert Louis Stevenson short story 'The Suicide Club,' providing a clever, intricately woven new mystery for Holmes to deduce. SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE ADVENTURE OF THE SUICIDE CLUB runs today, Sept. 6 through Oct. 4 in the Robert S. Marx Theatre.

Epic Theatre Company begins its 2014-2015 with Jeffrey Hatcher's witty, lush, and fascinating look at the most famous actor to ever play female roles in Shakespeare's plays, and what happened when actual women were allowed to take his place. COMPLEAT FEMALE STAGE BEAUTY, directed by Jill D. Jones, will run at Theatre 82 in Cranston, RI, from tonight, September 5 through September 13, 2014.
