Legendary designer and teacher Ming Cho Lee will be honored with the first Lifetime Achievement Award bestowed by the Henry Hewes Design Awards at the 54th annual luncheon ceremony in New York on October 22.

In the last few decades, theater has become much bigger business than it used to be. However, in that same period of time, the coverage of it in mainstream media outlets has dwindled. Many of us may not remember a time that off-Broadway openings were covered on Entertainment Tonight, but it happened. In recent years, even in America's theater epicenter, theater is losing ground in major publications. Neither The New York Post or The New York Daily News has a critic on staff any longer. It is hard to even tally the amount of veteran theater writers from around the country that have lost their jobs in the last decade.

The American Theatre Wing (Heather Hitchens, President) is pleased to announce that five theater artists will be honored by the Henry Hewes Design Awards Committee during the presentation of its 2017 Awards in a luncheon ceremony on Tuesday, January 23, 2018.

BroadwayWorld is happy to report that four theater artists will be honored by the Henry Hewes Design Awards Committee during the presentation of its 2015 Awards in a luncheon ceremony, set for the coming fall.

Five theater artists will be honored by the Henry Hewes Design Awards Committee during the presentation of its 2014 Awards in a luncheon ceremony scheduled for October 6. Bob Crowley (The Glass Menagerie), Linda Cho (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder), Justin Townsend (Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play) and G. Lucas Crane and Keith Skretch (This Was the End) will be honored with 2014 Henry Hewes Design Awards. Three of the five are receiving his or her first Henry Hewes Design Award. Bob Crowley was previously honored in 2007 for his work with Scott Pask on The Coast of Utopia. For the 2014 honors, 91 theater artists were nominated for outstanding artistry in 59 productions presented during the 2013-2014 New York theater season. Lynne Meadow (Artistic Director) and Barry Grove (Executive Producer) have announced three world premiere productions for Manhattan Theatre Club's upcoming 2014-2015 theatrical season.

Gingold Theatrical Group's SHAW NEW YORK 2013 festival concludes on Sunday October 13th. It has been highlighted by GTG's co-production of Shaw's You Never Can Tell with and at The Pearl Theatre Company. This production, which was filmed for the New York Library for the Performing Arts and Lincoln Center archives, is ending its limited run on Sunday October 13th.

On Monday, October 7 was Critics' Symposium, at which a team of critics examined the ever-changing needs of their field. This panel included David Cote and HeLen Shaw (TimeOut NY), Chris Jones (Chicago Tribune), Jason Zinoman(New York Times), Linda Winer(Newsday), Jeremy Gerard (Bloomberg) with moderator Jeffrey Eric Jenkins. The Pearl Theatre Company kicks off its 30th anniversary season-the second season in its new home on West 42nd Street-with the first New York revival in 15 years of George Bernard Shaw's You Never Can Tell in a co-production with the Gingold Theatrical Group that is directed by David Staller. Running today, September 3-October 13, the show's sumptuous costumes, elegant settings and Shavian wit will raise a champagne toast to a year of celebration at The Pearl, where Shaw, following Shakespeare, has been the second most produced playwright in The Pearl's history. The production is also the centerpiece of the Shaw New York 2013 festival.

David Korins (Chinglish),Gregg Barnes (Follies), Brian MacDevitt (Death of a Salesman) and Daniel Kluger (Tribes) will be honored with 2012 Henry Hewes Design Awards. The 2011 Henry Hewes Awards were announced earlier this year. For the 2012 honors, 86 theater artists were nominated for outstanding artistry in 57 productions presented during the 2011-2012 New York theater season.

The University of Illinois has announced the appointment of Jeffrey Eric Jenkins as Professor of Theatre and Head of the Department of Theatre. Jenkins, currently the Director of Theatre Studies at New York University and Editor of the Best Plays Theater Yearbook, will assume his new duties on August 16, 2012.

Gingold Theatrical Group -- which launched its first SHAW NEW YORK festival with a revival of Shaw's comedic masterpiece, MAN AND SUPERMAN, as a co-production with The Irish Repertory Theatre, and directed by GTG Artistic Director David Staller - continues SHAW NEW YORK with a SHAW CRITIC SYMPOSIUM at 2pm and SHAW CONCERT at 8pm - on Saturday, June 2 at The Players Club (16 Gramercy Park South) in Manhattan.

Long Way Down, Nashville playwright Nate Eppler's critically acclaimed new work which premiered locally earlier this year, has been named a semi-finalist for the 2012 Harold and Mimi Steinberg/American Theatre Critics Association New Play Award.
