BWW Spotlight Series: Meet Kristin Towers-Rowles – An Award-Winning Director, Triple-Threat Actress, and Granddaughter of Screen Legend Kathryn Grayson

With the current theatre world on hiatus, I have created a Spotlight Series of interviews with some of am the many talented artists who make our Los Angeles theatre community so exciting and vibrant thanks to their ongoing contribution to keeping the arts alive in the City of the Angels. And like all of us, how are they dealing with the abrupt end of productions in which they were involved? This Spotlight Series interview features Kristin Towers-Rowles, an Award-Winning Director, Triple-Threat Actress, and Granddaughter of Screen Legend Kathryn Grayson.

BWW Interview: Kristin Towers Rowles Reflects on Acting and Directing in 2019

Actress Kristen Towers Rowles is also an amazing director. She is nominated this year for two BWW Awards. In the conversation that follows she talks about acting, directing and the meaningful choices she has made in her career so far. Congratulations on your BWW Award nominations! Tell our readers in what categories you received them. Thank you. I'm nominated for Best Actress in a Play (Local) for playing Hattie in Laundry and Bourbon at Group Rep and as Director of a Play (Local) for Directing the World Premiere of The Lost Virginity Tour at The McCadden Place Theatre. If you had to choose winning one, which would that be? Why this choice?

MENOPAUSE THE MUSICAL Returns to the Belgrade Theatre

Following the phenomenal success of its UK tour in 2016, Menopause The Musical is back at the Belgrade Theatre this June with another hysterically funny celebration of women and "the change". Fully armed with a fabulous all-female cast, this hilariously hormonal show sets its scene in an ordinary department store, where the sale of a black lace bra stimulates an unlikely camaraderie between four strangers.

BWW Review: MENOPAUSE THE MUSICAL at the Welk Resort Theatre

Menopause the Musical is set in New York's Bloomingdale's department store where four women with different backgrounds, but similar unwelcome symptoms of growing older, run into each other while shopping and begin to share their experiences. The musical's success depends on wry humor and nostalgia for pop songs from the 1950s through 80s. An overture precedes 23 tunes arranged as solos or for varied combinations of singers. Playwright Jeanie Linders left melodies intact, but rewrote the lyrics to fit the work's overriding theme: getting old is no fun, might as well laugh about what we can't avoid.

BWW Review: MENOPAUSE THE MUSICAL at Westchester Broadway Theatre

Many moons ago, my mother raved about a musical she experienced with a group of her closest gal friends. When she told me the title, 'Menopause, the Musical,' I burst out laughing. How could I relate to that concept and how would that constitute a good time at the theatre?
