Kimmel Center & Joe's Pub Partner To Present 6th Annual Philadelphia Theater Residency

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and Joe's Pub team up again for the Kimmel Center Theater Residency. Under the guidance of Jay Wahl, Producing Artistic Director of the Kimmel Center, Shanta Thake, Senior Director of Artistic Programs for The Public Theater, and Alex Knowlton, Director of Joe's Pub, the Theater Residency program serves as an host for artists and their collaborators to create and develop music and theater projects. The residency will be held in the Kimmel Center's SEI Innovation Studio from June 18 29 with Public Readings, FREE and open to the public, on June 28 and 29. Readings will be followed by Q&A sessions with the artists.

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is excited to announce Swing @ the Kimmel, an interactive and FREE 6-week, virtual reality swing installation in Commonwealth Plaza. In collaboration with Thrill Laboratory and "Thrill Engineer" Professor Brendan Walker of England, Philadelphians are invited to visit the Kimmel Center for this unique, artistic experience that conjures up memories of favorite childhood pastimes, blended with cutting-edge technology and imaginative designs. This extended FREE programming on the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus is an expansion of ongoing Plaza programming that includes early childhood music education, jazz, Latin dance, and more.

Kimmel Center Announces Sixth Annual Jazz Residency, Year-long Program With 3 New Artistic Teams

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is excited to announce three new Jazz Residency teams for the 2018-19 season: David Allen, Raquel Salas Rivera, and Diane Monroe; Dan Blacksberg with Yosef Goldman; and Dariel Peniazek., Maya Peniazek, and Ariacne Trujillo. Collaborating with the Kimmel Center throughout winter and spring, each team will work to create a new project that is relevant and engaging to the Philadelphia community. In the residency's sixth consecutive year, all three of these new works will focus on how the United States is coming to terms with the question of identity and these artists' struggles to define belonging.

The Kimmel Center & Joe's Pub Join Forces

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and Joe's Pub at The Public join forces once again for the Kimmel Center Theater Residency. Under the tutelage of Jay Wahl, Producing Artistic Director of the Kimmel Center, and Shanta Thake, Director of Joe's Pub, the program serves as an incubator for artists and their collaborators to create and develop music and theater projects. The program will be held in the Kimmel Center's SEI Innovation Studio (300 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA) from June 18-30 with Public Readings, free and open to the public, on June 29 and 30. Readings will be followed by Q&A sessions with the artists.

Deb Margolin Brings 8 STOPS to Dixon Place

Deb Margolin will perform her one-woman show, 8 Stops, at Dixon Place on Today, June 16th, in a one-night-only performance benefitting the longstanding downtown non-profit performance venue. Margolin is a playwright, actor, and co-founder of the Split Britches Theater Company. 8 Stops, directed by Jay Wahl, is the newest of Margolin's many solo shows, all ten of which she has toured throughout the United States.

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts announces its new Jazz Residency artists for the 2017-18 season: Luke O'Reilly, Colton Weatherston, and Doug Hirlinger. This year, the artists, alongside an array of collaborators, will each produce new work that speaks to an aspect of Philadelphia's history or culture, from the Black Lives Matter movement, to Germantown Avenue, to inequality and gentrification in the city.

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts announces the world premiere of Hello! Sadness!, a one-woman comedy debuting in SEI Innovation Studio on Thursday, June 11, Friday, June 12 and Saturday, June 13 at 8p.m. Written and performed by Philadelphia theater artist Mary Tuomanen, with direction by Annie Wilson, this solo performance is the fruition of Tuomanen's participation in the 2014 Kimmel Center Theater Residency with celebrated poet and performance artist Dael Orlandersmith.

Joe's Pub at The Public has announced a new partnership with Philadelphia's renowned Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts for the 2015 Kimmel Center Theater Residency. Under the tutelage of Shanta Thake, Director of Joe's Pub, and Jay Wahl, the Kimmel Center's Artistic Director, the two week program will guide four world-class artists through the writing process and composition of four new works. The program will be held in the SEI Innovation Studio (1500 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA) from June 21 to July 2.
