The New 42nd Street's annual Gala was held last night, January 12 at The New Victory Theater, to honor Tony, Emmy, and Golden Globe Award-winner John Lithgow with the New Victory Arts Award for his work in 'bringing kids to the arts and the arts to kids.' The New 42nd Street also honored The Rudin Family with the inaugural Marian Heiskell Award for their role in shaping the future of New York City. Glenn Close served as Gala honorary chair. Axis Theatre Company begins their 2014-15 season with the world premiere of Randy Sharp's new musical Solitary Light, tonight, September 10 - October 4. Written and directed by Sharp (East 10th Street, Last Man Club, In The Park), the production features music co-written by Paul Carbonara (Blondie, Mary McBride) and focuses on the turmoil surrounding the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire.

A reading of Harriet, a musical based on the life of Harriet Tubman, will be presented today, July 16, at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., and on Sunday, July 20 at 12 p.m. in The Studio Theatre at Theatre Row, 410 West 42nd Street (between 9th Avenue & Dyer Avenue). Harriet is an official selection of the 2014 New York Musical Theatre Festival.
