National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $30 million in grants as part of the NEA's first major funding announcement for fiscal year 2017. Included in this announcement is an Art Works grant of $20,000 to Cleveland Play House (CPH) for the Building Drama Programs, Building Communities program. The Art Works category focuses on the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and the strengthening of communities through the arts.

Miracle Theatre Group aka Milagro, the Northwest's premier Latino arts and culture organization, was awarded $315,000 in grants from September to December 2016 for General Operating Support and Capital Improvements, and to fund Milagro's artistic programming, arts education, and community engagement efforts.

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has announced its first major grant funding round of fiscal year 2017, which includes a $20,000 grant supporting a co-production of The Secret Garden, created in partnership between Seattle's The 5th Avenue Theatre and Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington D.C. The critically acclaimed production directed by 5th Avenue Theatre Executive Producer and Artistic Director David Armstrong, has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, and recently announced an extension through January 8 for its current presentation in D.C. The Secret Garden will excite audiences at home in the Emerald City April 14-May 6.

Included in this announcement is an Art Works award of $30,000 to support Big Apple Circus' renowned community outreach programs: Clown Care®, Circus of the Senses, Big Apple Circus Embraces Autism, and Vaudeville Visits. This is the circus' third year of funding for the programs, helping to bring the arts to under-served populations for yet another season.
