By popular demand, the Broadway at Birdland concert series just featured singer/actor Erich Bergen, who made his solo Birdland debut last night, December 29. BroadwayWorld was there for the special night and you can check out more coverage below!

For 60 continuous hours, from 7pm on Thursday January 1 to 7am on Sunday January 4, New York's Metropolitan Room is staging what it is billing as "The Longest Variety Show Ever." Featuring approximately 160 performers and 15 emcees, the entertainment will span music, burlesque, comedy, drag, theatre/opera, magic and puppetry.

'The Story Goes On', and Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire were in the audience as Liz Callaway ended her Christmas show with one of their songwriting masterpieces.

The New York Pops - a symphonic orchestra known for presenting popular programs of exceptional quality - continues its 32nd season in a series at Carnegie Hall celebrating the diversity of some of popular music's greatest icons. Music Director Steven Reineke leads the orchestra in a festive holiday concert featuring Kelli O'Hara and Matthew Morrison last night and tonight, December 20, 2014. This holiday season, Birdland Jazz Club presents a special two-week engagement with beloved performer Michael Feinstein through December 27, 2014. A long-time friend of the club and frequent special guest at Cast Party, this NYC holiday tradition kicks off a year-long, global, centennial celebration of Frank Sinatra with a program of Ol' Blue Eyes favorite standards from the great American songbook. I'm sure there has never been more talent in anyone's camera lens on 22nd Street in front of the Metropolitan Room than is represented in this photo. So for now, I hold that record as we approach 7PM on Jan 1st when hopefully the Guinness World record for Longest Variety Show will begin.

This week Danny Aiello will talk to Peter LeDonne about his book "I Only Know Who I Am When I Am Somebody Else". It's a memoir in which Danny details his life going from being an announcer of buses on the PA system to becoming an Oscar nominated actor.

The ASCAP Foundation Awards Ceremony was held at The Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center and Broadwayworld was there. This years recipient of the Masters Award was composer John Corigliano. Mr. Corigliano has also won fiver Grammy's a Pulitzer Prize the Grawemeyer Award and an Academy Award for his many scores and compositions. Rupert Holmes, Composer, Playwright, lyricist, mystery novelist, arranger-conductor, screenwriter, record producer and singer-songwriter received the Foundations George M. Cohan Award which is made possible by the Friars Foundation.

After four years reviewing cabaret shows, more than two for BroadwayWorld, our lead New York cabaret critic Stephen Hanks will be giving up reviewing shows to be the BWW Cabaret section's Editor and lead feature writer. Here's how he became a cabaret reviewer, why he's giving it up, and who he's brought on board to make up BWW's new cabaret reviewing team.

The new political comedy Tail! Spin!, which opened to rave reviews on October 1 at the Lynn Redgrave Theater at Culture Project will close on January 4, 2015.

This week Barry Weissler, who with wife Fran are one of Broadway's most successful producer teams, will be on Backstage with Peter Ledonne. Backstage is recorded in Patsy's Restaurant every Wednesday and broadcast on 970 AM Sunday from 12-1 PM.

The day is finally here! After one month of voting on preliminary nominees in 17 categories, the results of more than 5,000 ballots were considered along with the selections of BroadwayWorld's cabaret section editors to determine the final nominees for the 2014 BroadwayWorld.com New York Cabaret Awards. Joining cabaret icon Marilyn Maye with four nominations is budding star Carole J. Bufford, who made the final ballot for two different shows during 2014 and as 'Best Female Vocalist' and 'Performer of the Year.' Among Maye's nominations were 'Performer of the Year,' two shows in the 'Best Celebrity Show' category, and a 'Best Director' nomination for her work with jazz singer Gabrielle Stravelli (who received two nominations). In addition to her usual nod for 'Best Jazz Vocalist,' jazz star Jane Monheit received two other nominations as 'Performer of the Year,' and as 'Best Host' for her new variety show at Birdland, Jane Monheit's Jazz Party (Monheit also co-starred with Clint Holmes in another nominated show, Frank Wildhorn and Friends in the 'Best Revue' category.) Eric Michael Gillett also earned three nominations for 'Best Show, Male,' 'Best Male Vocalist,' and 'Best Director.'

ME, MY MOUTH AND I - a new solo play written and performed by Joy Behar held its world-premiere production at Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St.) this fall, and opened on Sunday, November 23. The production will play a limited 7-week engagement through December 21.

Lots of times there are signature sounds. A voice seems like it was always meant to be heard in a certain venue. It's a perfect fit. At Yankee Stadium it was announcer Bob Sheppard, For CBS News it was Walter Cronkite and for the Carlyle it was Bobby Short. It will always be Steve Tyrell for this Father of The Brides.
