The Metropolitan Opera has named baritone Will Liverman the winner of the 2022 Beverly Sills Artist Award. The annual $50,000 award recognizes extraordinarily gifted singers with rising Met careers.

After a season-long series of competitions at the district, regional, and national levels, a panel of expert judges named six singers as the winners of the 2022 Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition.

The Webby Awards announced today that San Francisco Opera’s intimate video portrait series In Song, produced with Lumahai Productions, won the 2022 “Webby People’s Voice Award” for best music “Video Series & Channel.” In a competitive category of five nominees including NPR, Pitchfork and Soundcloud, In Song received the most online votes cast between April 5 and April 21 for “the Internet’s highest honor” (New York Times). In Song was also nominated for the 2022 Webby Award for best music “Video Series & Channel,” for which the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences selected In The Know x Complex: Making it.

The 2022 BBC Proms celebrates a homecoming of large-scale orchestral repertoire to the Royal Albert Hall. This year's festival will feature a programme of a scale not heard at the Proms since 2019: the symphonic music of our past responding vividly to the moment, from Verdi's Requiem on the First Night of the Proms, to Mahler's Second Symphony with the London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Simon Rattle, to Beethoven's Ninth Symphony performed by the Chineke! Patrick Furrer will conduct the final performance of Verdi’s Don Carlos today, Saturday, March 26th, replacing Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin, who has withdrawn due to illness. Furrer previously conducted the March 18 and 22 performances.

On Wednesday, April 6 at 7:30pm,  Vocal Arts DC presents mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton with composer—pianist Jake Heggie in concert at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. This program will include selections by Henry Purcell, Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms, and Florence Price.

The Metropolitan Opera announced today A Concert for Ukraine on Monday, March 14, at 6:00pm ET, with Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin leading the Met Orchestra and Chorus, featuring a roster of star soloists.

The 2021-22 season of The Met: Live in HD will continue with Verdi’s DON CARLOS on Saturday, March 26 at 12:00 pm in the Nancy Marine Studio Theatre.

DON CARLOS--Verdi’s original French language version, for the first time at the Met, of the opera better known in these parts as the Italian DON CARLO--was as grim as its setting in the Spanish inquisition in the new David McVicar production introduced last night. And about as long (though for once it ended earlier than expected)--Verdi's longest opera.

Before the opening night performance of Verdi's Don Carlos, the audience observed a moment of silence, followed by the Ukrainian national anthem, performed by the Met Orchestra and Chorus and conducted by Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

Verdi’s epic opera about doomed love during the Spanish Inquisition first premiered in French at the Paris Opera in 1867.

The Metropolitan Opera today announced its 2022–23 season, which features seven new productions, the most in ten seasons. Opening Night is September 27 with the company premiere of Cherubini’s Medea, starring soprano Sondra Radvanovsky in the title role alongside tenor Matthew Polenzani in David McVicar’s new staging, conducted by Carlo Rizzi.

After the successful first half of the 2021–22 season and a planned February break, the Metropolitan Opera will return with a slate of three new productions and 12 classic revivals for its spring season that runs February 28–June 11.

On Tuesday, March 15, Vocal Arts DC will present soprano Elena Villalón in recital with pianist Kathleen Kelly. The concert will take place at 7:30pm at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ Terrace Theater.

Sasha Cooke will sing Eduige in all performances of Handel's Rodelinda this season, replacing Jamie Barton, who is now singing Eboli in the Met's new production of Verdi's Don Carlos, as previously announced.
