Bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green Wins Met's 2023 Beverly Sills Artist Award

The Metropolitan Opera has named bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green the winner of the 2023 Beverly Sills Artist Award, the second time that Green has received this honor. Previously, Green shared the award with four other artists in 2021, the season that had been canceled due to the pandemic.

Renée Fleming to Return For Fifth Year To Lead SongStudio Workshop Beginning This Month

​​​​​​​From January 30-February 4, 2023, renowned soprano Renée Fleming will mentor 10 aspiring young singers and 10 collaborative pianists from around the world in the fifth year of SongStudio, an innovative program exploring the future of the vocal recital. Review: DON CARLO Returns to the Met, This Time in Italian

Last season, the company gave its first presentation of the French version (that’s the one called DON CARLOS, with a final S to his first name), in the five-act version that lasted almost 5 hours. This year, we’re back to Italian, under Carlo Rizzi’s firm baton, in one of a number of versions (this one running about 4 hours) of DON CARLO, which uses shortcuts to tell the story elements deleted with the excision of the first act (usually referred to as “the Fontainebleau scene”).
