SHRINES Comes to National Sawdust

Irish Arts Center, the multidisciplinary center dedicated to bringing people of all backgrounds together through the excellence and dynamism of Irish arts and culture, co-presents Shrines (Carrie Erving) with National Sawdust at National Sawdust on Wednesday, February 19. Shrines - the moniker for Brooklyn-based singer, composer and musician Carrie Erving - mixes dance and visual design elements with ethereal vocals, string arrangements, synth drones, and electronic flourishes in an evening of original songs from her debut EP, Release, produced by Rosana Cabán (of Psychic Twin). The EP draws on influences from her eclectic background in opera, rock, Irish folk, and electronic music. She'll also perform selections from her forthcoming album Our Ship is Ready, a collection of reimagined songs from the Irish Sean-nós song tradition. Shrines has drawn comparisons to Sylvan Esso, Björk, and Sinead O'Connor.

The band will perform songs from their highly acclaimed, award-winning sophomore album The Hare's Lament, an amalgam of original and masterfully resurrected traditional songs that is both homespun and immaculate, plaintive and lush.

Irish Arts Center (IAC), a multidisciplinary arts center dedicated to bringing people of all backgrounds together through the excellence and dynamism of Irish culture, announces programming for the Spring 2020 season. The organization enters the new decade with a robust and multiform season, the last (for now) in its 51st Street home, prior to the highly anticipated opening of the New Irish Arts Center, fittingly showcasing the organization's enduring interest in bridging tradition and innovation. (The Center's 51st Street venue will be renovated following the opening of the new, adjacent 11th Avenue building, which it will ultimately adjoin.) As IAC prepares its momentous transformation, they continue to focus a long-held core vision for inclusively pairing and coalescing boundary-pushing contemporary work from Ireland, America, and around the world, with an appreciation of Irish artistic history and tradition. Whether in music, theater, dance, literature, or any collision of forms, IAC's seasons carry with them Ireland and Irish America's cultural legacies; panoramic visions of current artistic movements; and maps to the vast potentials of their futures.
David Keenan Announces Debut Album

Hailing from the small, Irish border town of Dundalk, David Keenan is a young singer-songwriter with a lyrical gift for storytelling and a well-tuned ear for a melody. Signed to Rubyworks, the same Irish independent label as fellow countryman Hozier and Rodrigo y Gabriela; David Keenan's debut album, entitled A Beginner's Guide To Bravery will be released worldwide on Friday, January 10, 2020. Today, Keenan released an acoustic version of his new song, 'Altar Wine.'

59E59 Theaters (Val Day, Artistic Director; Brian Beirne, Managing Director) will welcome the return of Ireland's leading new play company Fishamble: The New Play Company with the US premiere of MAZ AND BRICKS, written by Eva O'Connor and directed by Jim Culleton. Part of Origin's 1st Irish, MAZ AND BRICKS begins performances on Tuesday, January 7 for a limited engagement through Sunday, February 2.
