Martin Hayes and The Common Ground Ensemble Come to the New Irish Arts Center This Week

The Irish Arts Center presents the U.S. debut of Martin Hayes' Common Ground Ensemble, in which he has convened a range of musicians-acclaimed practitioners of traditional Irish music, jazz and improvisation, avant-garde and cutting edge contemporary classical-with roots in Irish trad music, the "common ground" of their name. They play Irish Arts Center's heralded new building this week, Feb 3-6.

Martin Hayes, one of Ireland's most influential artists, is celebrated both for his own virtuosic playing and for his collaborations, including the Gloaming, which The Irish Times deemed "contemporary music-making at its best." The new project includes:

Martin Hayes, fiddle
Cormac McCarthy, piano
Kate Ellis, cello
Kyle Sanna, guitar
Brian Donnellan, bouzouki, harmonium, and concertina

Special guests include guitarist Jefferson Hamer (Friday); banjo player Nora Brown and fiddler player Stephanie Coleman (Saturday); and fiddle player Dana Lyn (Sunday).

Performances take place:

Thursday, February 3, at 8pm

Friday, February 4, at 8pm

Saturday, February 5, at 8pm

Sunday, February 6, at 7pm
