Beck Center Presents Screening of Documentary, KELLY'S HOLLYWOOD

Beck Center for the Arts' Creative Arts Therapies Department is pleased to present two screenings of the documentary Kelly's Hollywood at 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2015, in the Music & Dance Building. Since its founding in 1974 by Paul Zimet and Ellen Maddow -- former members of Joseph Chaikin's seminal Open Theater -- the Talking Band has remained a cornerstone of New York City's avant-garde theater community. La MaMa in association with Talking Band will present the world premiere of its latest work, BURNISHED BY GRIEF, a sinister, music infused romantic comedy, at La MaMa's first floor theater from January 22-February 7.

TOES (The Outreach and Exchange Strategy) FOR DANCE will present two innovative contemporary dance productions; first the Mixed-Program; entrances and exits: an evening of short contemporary dances and excerpts in November (14-15 at the Betty Oliphant Theatre), followed by a Festival of full-length works in December (11-13 at the Aki Studio in the Daniels Spectrum), both showcasing local and international artists.

Today, November 9th the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival announces its 2016 Festival programming with a launch party at The Fox Cabaret. inSIGHT Through Education & Kravis Center Present LIGHT Tonight

The devastating outcomes of lessons learned from the Holocaust are revealed in a landmark, original ballet coming to the Raymond F. Norfolk & Norwich Festival Announces 2016 Events

Norfolk & Norwich Festival, one of the biggest arts festivals in the UK, has today announced the first shows of its 2016 Festival. With more to be announced, highlights for 2016 so far include: a ground-breaking UK Premiere from contemporary circus cabaret troupe Race Horse Company; the World Premiere of a major new commission from one of the UK's foremost young composers - Kemal Yusuf; excerpts from electro-acoustic polymath Max Richter's intensive investigation in the power of the human brain - Sleep; Aurelien Bory's industrial robot's dance with acrobats Sans Objet; Twenty Feet From Stardom's Lisa Fischer's first ever solo UK concert; an epic staging of Mahler's Symphony of a Thousand by Norwich Philharmonic and a revival of Rona Munro's critically acclaimed The James Plays. The festival runs 13 - 29 May 2016 with full line up still to be announced.

La MaMa's International Puppet Series Begins Tonight

Puppetry from the U.S., Japan, Belgium and Colombia will be featured in the 2015 LA MAMA PUPPET SERIES set for today, November 5 to 29 on all four of La MaMa's stages in New York City. This biennial festival highlights new contemporary puppet theatre from many of the world's leading puppet artists during the month of November, including Heather Henson, Ty Defoe, Tom Lee, Koryu Nishikawa V, Loco7 Dance Puppet Theatre Company and Maiko Kikuchi.

Toronto's Emily D'Angelo Named Victor in Canadian Opera Company's Vocal Competition

Toronto – Emily D'Angelo of Toronto took home First Prize (the Chair's Prize) at the Canadian Opera Company's annual Ensemble Studio Competition on November 3, 2015 at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. The competition is the feature event of the COC fundraiser Centre Stage, a highly anticipated annual celebration of the next generation of opera stars. D'Angelo was selected from eight finalists to receive the $5,000 award, supported annually by the Chair of the COC's Board of Directors. Lauren Eberwein of Qualicum Beach, BC won the Second Prize of $3,000, and Bruno Roy of Montreal was awarded the Third Prize of $1,500. Emily D'Angelo was also selected by the audience as the winner of the Audience Choice Award, worth $1,500.
