In association with Williams Collision Center and Jamerson Building Supply, Wolfbane is proud to host this incredible production at their new indoor location, The Wolf Den, 197 Old Courthouse Rd, Appomattox, VA 24522. Thursday-Saturday, doors open at 7pm; the show will begin at 8pm. Sunday will be matinee day, with doors opening at 5pm; the show will begin at 6pm. Like much of the works of Stephen Sondheim, from the start, 'Little Night Music' proves to be a different type of musical. Rather than a traditional overture, one-by-one, a quintet of singers, who will act like a Greek chorus throughout the production commenting on varying situations, introducing the audience to characters and clarify the plot's goings on, enter, tuning up their voices. Eventually, they blend into an overture composed of different songs from the score.
REP delivers a punk treatment of Sweeney Todd that is astoundingly compact, hideously dynamic and impressively submersive. The set is efficiently arranged, a versatile, vertically integrated playing space, full of grunge and London-isms. The Company members display powerful, accurate and impressive vocal prowess. Every one of them is physically precise, flexible and compelling. Director Joseph Ritsch has confidence in his cast's ability to manage multiple roles, so they form the Ensemble as well. This retro-modern treatment of Sondheim's popular opera makes salient points about who are the most fragile and disenfranchised people of a community and the destructive powers of a personal agenda.
