Rep Stage, the professional regional theatre in residence at Howard Community College (HCC), opens its 26th season with 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,' directed and choreographed by Joseph W. Ritsch with music direction by Stacey Antoine. Set in modern-day East London, this production of the Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler Tony Award-winning musical thriller features a diverse ensemble of eight and a chamber orchestra of keyboard, violin, and woodwinds.

The orchestra begins to play a quiet, foreboding melody as the cast takes the stage inviting the audience to "Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd", soon with a signature factory whistle the man himself, malicious, glaring and exuding an air of evil appears center stage. Thus begins what, for many, is an unlikely favorite musical, Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's SWEENEY TODD. And, thus also begins Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT)'s current production of the hit musical. From that point on, though, all bets are off as the next 2 hours are filled with a performance that is fresh, exciting, and downright chilling, and is certainly something not to be missed.

Today's performance marks 558, surpassing the 1979 Original Broadway Production directed by Hal Prince.
The Atlanta Opera closes its 2017-18 mainstage season with Stephen Sondheim's seminal musical, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. This production of Sweeney Todd remains faithful to the original Broadway show, and features an all-star cast, including Michael Mayes in his role debut as Sweeney Todd, and Maria Zifchak as Mrs. Lovett. Timothy Myers will conduct in a company debut, and Albert Sherman, who has directed Sweeney Todd under the mentorship of Harold Prince, will serve as production director.

BoHo Theatre has announced that Stephen Schellhardt will become BoHo's new Artistic Director beginning next season, which will begin in early 2019. Schellhardt has been the Artistic Associate with the company since 2015. He assumes the position from outgoing Artistic Director Peter Marston Sullivan, who will remain with BoHo as the new Artistic Associate.
