The evening recognized influential film producers and entertainment icons with special honors including Tom Cruise with the David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures; Mindy Kaling with the Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television; Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy with the Milestone Award; and “Till” with the Stanley Kramer Award.

The Latinx Playwrights Circle has announced the Off-Broadway Premiere of Christin Eve Cato's Sancocho directed by Rebecca Martinez, in partnership with WP Theater and The Sol Project.

Adriana Gaviria will join Jacob G. Padrón as co-Artistic Director of The Sol Project. Gaviria will assume the new role beginning December 12, 2022. 

Sancocho, a new play by Christin Eve Cato (The Good Cop, DUAF 2022) directed by Rebecca Martinez (Miss You Like Hell; Theatre for One: Here We Are) will have its Off-Broadway premiere at WP Theater in Spring 2023.

New Georges will kick off its 30th Anniversary season with a one-night-only special presentation of bb brecht’s Holiday Yuletide Spectacular, created by Miranda Haymon. On Wednesday December 14, 2022, audiences are invited to spend their holiday party season with bb brecht and his friends at Dixon Place.

This weekend, the University of Houston will be starting their run of MARISOL, a play written by José Rivera. This magical production follows the story of a young woman named Marisol who has a guardian angel. I had the honor to speak with Jose Zayas, the director of the production, and it was a delight to learn about the beauty of this production.

The Sol Project, the national theater initiative dedicated to amplifying Latiné voices and building a body of work for the new American theater, announced full details for the fifth annual SolFest: A Latiné Theatre Festival, produced in partnership with (Pregones/PRTT). The four-day program runs August 7-10 with both online and in-person events.

InterAct Theatre Company continues its 2021-2022 season with 72 MILES TO GO…, by Emmy and Golden Globe nominated playwright, TV writer and producer, Hilary Bettis. 72 MILES TO GO… marks InterAct's 4th live, in-person production since returning from the pandemic shutdown, it will follow on the heels of its critically acclaimed SETTLEMENTS in April 2022.

Rec Room Arts will present the Houston premiere of Hurricane Diane, Madeleine George's (Hulu's Only Murders in the Building) Obie Award-winning play that turns the Greek god Dionysus into Diane, a lesbian permaculture gardener whose secret mission is to save the planet from the ravages of climate change. Lily Wolff (Alley Theatre) will direct the production.

Just last night, Roundabout Theatre Company New York premiere of Birthday Candles by Noah Haidle, starring Emmy Award winner Debra Messing, directed by Vivienne Benesch, celebrated opening night and BroadwayWorld was there to capture pictures.
