Great Comet Broadway alum and underground accordion rock chanteuse Mary Knapp a.k.a. Toot Sweet released her third studio album DISCO ECLIPSE on February 1. The record reflects Knapp's experience of the past two years as a Brooklyn musician jumping headfirst into a hit Broadway show, sustaining an injury on the job and facing a paranoid convalescent comedown. Several of the tracks on the album make their official music video debut in Knapp's surreal musical comedy web series, “Toot Sweet's Variety Show,” which Knapp wrote, co-directed, co-edited, produced, and self-released alongside the album. Featured on Bust Magazine in January, the series which tells the story of a musician's circuitous journey to success.

The Puerto Rico-born, Bronx-bred choreographer and performer Marlyn Ortiz, along with choreographer Emmanuel E. Hernandez, directs an all-female cast of New York's hottest dancers, aerialists and comediennes in a show that sets traditional and neo-burlesque elements to Latin rhythms. The evening features the beautiful ladies of Bon Bon Burlesque, in addition to comedienne Lori Sommer, also known as "Madam Honey," singer Rachel Stern, also known as "Ray Ray Star," and Jose Mitaynes as "Manuel." The show includes songs such as La Lupe's "Latin Fever," Madonna's "Justify Your Love," and Esthero's "Wikked Lil' Girrrls."
Musica Viva NY celebrates Leonard Bernstein's centennial with Bernstein at 100: In friendship with Copland on Sunday, March 10 at 5:00 p.m. at The Brick Church. The Musica Viva NY Choir, led by Artistic Director Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez, is featured in music by two iconic American composers of the 20th century, Leonard Bernstein, and Aaron Copland. The concert includes Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, and Make Our Garden Grow, as well as the chamber version of Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring, and Concerto for Clarinet, Strings and Harp.

Anna Deavere Smith's stunning play explores the people who experienced the Los Angeles riots and the devastating human impact of that event. From nine months of interviews with more than 200 people, Smith chose voices that best reflect the diversity and tension of a city in turmoil, all portrayed by one actress in a tour-de-force performance. This March, the more than 20 organizations in eleven cities nationwide that compose the Poetry Coalition will launch “What Is It, Then, Between Us?: Poetry & Democracy,” the coalition's third annual programming initiative. For this collaborative effort, organizations will offer a range of events and publications that speak to this timely theme. This programming is made possible in part by a grant from the Ford Foundation secured by the Academy of American Poets.
