The Sled Island Music & Arts Festival is thrilled to unveil its first wave of 2020 artists. The annual festival presents a thoughtfully chosen lineup of music, comedy, film and art in 30 venues across Calgary, Alberta each June. The artists announced today, ranging from celebrated icons to contemporary innovators, represent just a small sample of the 200+ bands that will descend on the festival from June 24-28, 2020.

Norah Jones and Mavis Staples Will Perform At Bethel Woods

Bethel Woods Center for the Arts today announced that Norah Jones and Mavis Staples will perform a special Pavilion-only concert at the historic site on Saturday, August 1st. Special Guests Announced For Jackbenny: AND ON THE 366th DAY

Twin brothers Jack and Benny Lipson, aka the critically acclaimed jackbenny, have announced their special guests for And on the 366th Day at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex Intimate Theatre on Saturday, February 29, at 8pm. The show will feature the fiery powerhouse singer Bella Hicks, vintage songstress Nina Herzog, Baritone Bombshell Jonnie Reinhart, guitarist John Schroeder, and musical theatre icon Valerie Perri.

This spring and summer artists at Joe's Pub a?" a program and venue of The Public Theater a?" will shine a light on the breath of Latinx art. This group of artists explore music styles with roots in Mexico, Chile, Cuba, the afrolatino traditions of the Caribbean, and more. Seasoned ears will be able to discern the influence of a myriad of traditions while newbies will be granted delightful access to the nuances under the Latinx umbrella at Joe's Pub.

Steven Van Zandt Marks 30th Anniversary of Mandela Prison Release with 'Sun City' Vinyl Remaster

Little Steven, aka Steven Van Zandt, is commemorating today's 30th anniversary of Nelson Mandela's historic release from a South African prison after 27 years in captivity with the announcement that his 1985 landmark protest album, Sun City, by Artists United Against Apartheid, the extraordinary supergroup brought together by Van Zandt, producer Arthur Baker and journalist Danny Schechter to fight racial injustice in South Africa, will be released on vinyl for the first time since its initial release 35 years ago. The long-out-of-print LP joins five additional classic albums from Van Zandt making all of Little Steven's records from his early career once again available on vinyl.

Chris Standring to Release REAL LIFE

Riding the momentum of being named 2019's Artist of the Year, contemporary jazz guitarist Chris Standring's first single from his forthcoming 13th solo album, “Real Life,” was the most added track in its debut week at radio. The curiously titled “Is There A Doctor In The House?,” which is illumined by a celestial gospel vocal sample and Standring's joyous electric guitar parlance and rousing keyboard blasts, is one of nine new tunes written by the artist, who produced and arranged the eleven-song set dropping March 20 on the Ultimate Vibe Recordings imprint.

Amazon Music to Debut KAMASI WASHINGTON LIVE AT THE APOLLO THEATER on Feb. 6

In partnership with Amazon Music, Kamasi Washington will unveil a new film, Kamasi Washington Live at The Apollo Theater, this Thursday, February 6 via Amazon Prime Video. The film, directed by Michael Garber and recorded at Washington's February 2019 headline show at the iconic theater, features Washington performing songs from his critically acclaimed releases The Epic, Harmony of Difference and Heaven and Earth alongside his much lauded band The Next Step and guests including DJ Battlecat and vocalist Dwight Trible. Malian singer, songwriter, guitarist, and actor Fatoumata Diawara brings her mesmerizing blend of traditional African music and elements of Western pop, rock, Afrobeat, funk and R&B to The Town Hall, Friday, February 21st at 8 p.m. Opening the show will be Los Angeles-based Guatemalan singer and songwriter Gaby Moreno.
