Pear Theatre opens its 2016/2017 season with two two-person shows running in repertory, each presenting a different perspective on modern conflict, identity, grief, and human nature. THE GUYS by Anne Nelson, directed by Christian Haines, previews on August 24; with Press and Opening Night on Friday, August 26, followed by a champagne gala. VEILS by Tom Coash, directed by Vickie Rozell, previews on August 25; with Press and Opening Night on Saturday, August 27, followed by a champagne gala. The two shows run concurrently through September 18. All performances are held at the Pear Theatre, 1110 La Avenida St., Mountain View. The Public Theater will celebrate the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death in 2016 with free Shakespeare in the Park beginning in May, along with other affordable Bard programming at Astor Place and the Delacorte Theater, it was announced today. As part of Oskar Eustis' 10th Anniversary season, free Shakespeare in the Park this summer will feature an all-female version of THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, directed by Phyllida Lloyd and featuring Olivier Award nominee Cush Jumbo as Katherina and Tony Award winner Janet McTeer as Petruchio, followed in July by TROILUS AND CRESSIDA, directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan.

The concert traces the evolution of the waltz through a variety of works: J. Strauss II's On the Beautiful Blue Danube, selections from Ravel's Valses nobles et sentimentales, Oscar Lorenzo Fernandez's Batuque from Reisado do pastoreio, Mambo from Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, and selections from R. Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier Suite. Vice President, Education, Theodore Wiprud will host the event, which will be directed and scripted by Tom Dulack and feature dancer Heather Lipson Bell.
