 There was an explosion last night at the finale of 'Mama's Next BIG Act!' at Don't Tell Mama. In a giant win, Amorika Amoroso came out on top of a remarkably gifted and well-matched group of performers who treated the standing-room only audience to an evening of sustained artistry and passion.  Amoroso, a deliriously funny R&B and blues singer/bad-ass who slices and dices with stories of growing up unique, sang 'Moving on Up,' which not only blew the roof off the joint, but also served notice that a major star was marching onto the scene in New York cabaret.

After another night jam-packed with daring artistry and scintillating talent, "Mama's Next BIG Act!" the genre-bending talent contest, is slimming down dramatically today.

Due to popular demand, Scottsdale Musical Theater Company is adding a performance of their upcoming production of Gypsy on Saturday, August 22 @ 2PM. Scottsdale Musical Theater Company welcomes long time valley theater veterans Debra Qualtire as 'Mama Rose' and Zoni Award winner Terry Gadaire as 'Herbie' with the title role of 'Louise/Gypsy Rose Lee' played by Sarah Cassidy. The show will be directed and choreographed by David Hock, with Kevin Hayward as musical director/conductor of our 20+ piece orchestra. Fresh off of their critically-acclaimed production of 'The Producers' at Tempe Center for the Arts, Scottsdale Musical Theater Company has plans for another stellar year of Broadway's finest musicals at one of the Valley's most state-of-the art venues:

Scottsdale Musical Theater Company has presented a rib-tickling production of Mel Brooks' The Producers, directed by David Hock and featuring standout performances by Hector Coris, Matt Newhard, Marina Blue Jarrette, Patrick Russo, Terry Gadaire, and an energetic ensemble.

SMTC welcomes Valley theatre veteran Terry Gadaire to the cast as "Roger DeBris", Marina Blue Jarrette as "Ulla", Patrick Russo as "Franz Liebkind" and Sky Christian Donovan as "Carmen Ghia". They join the previously announced award-winning actors Matt Newhard as "Leo Bloom" and Hector Coris as "Max Bialystock."

It's kind of gutsy to feature an alternative musical treatment of Gaston Leroux's Phantom of the Opera when its iconic award-winning Andrew Lloyd Weber namesake is liable to overshadow any such effort, but that's what Hale Centre Theatre has done, and with great success, in its season opener, Phantom.

Continuing its tradition of bringing Broadway's favorites back to life, SMTC is proud to announce their next production, the hilarious, Tony Award record-breaking Mel Brooks musical The Producers, for a special engagement.
