SMTC to Present HECTOR CORIS: OUR OWN KIND OF UNIVERSE, 4/6
One of fastest-growing theater companies in the Valley is kicking off a new Cabaret Series featuring multi-award winning vocalist HECTOR CORIS's new solo show Our Own Kind of Universe. The show will be musical directed by Curtis Moeller with a special appearance by Marina Blue Jarrette. The one-night-only performance will take place on Monday, April 6th at7:30PM at Tempe Center for the Arts (Studio Theatre), 700 W. Rio Salado Parkway, Tempe, AZ 85281. Tickets are $20. Cocktail table seating will be available. "There's really nothing like this kind of cabaret performance in Phoenix, not to the extent that it exists in NY, San Francisco, Chicago or some other big cities," states Mr. Coris. "It's not about getting up on stage and belting out the latest Broadway hits. It's following a tradition of the connection between singer-and-song, singer-and-musician and singer-and-audience to create a powerful, entertaining and cohesive journey."
In a follow-up to his acclaimed debut solo show, Life is Wonderful., vocalist and MAC-Award winner HECTOR CORIS explores the unique spatial relationships of people to faith, personality and our global footprint through an eclectic mix of songs by Jacques Brel, Stephen Sondheim, Christine Lavin, Harry Nilsson, Lyle Lovett and other contemporary, masterful storytelling songwriters. Weaving thoughts on love, marriage, belief and distance with a sly musical wink, Hector uses his singular style to create a lively, emotional and irreverent meditation on finding our place in our simultaneously tiny, yet vast universe.
HECTOR CORIS won the 2010 Manhattan Association of Cabaret & Clubs Award for Outstanding Male Vocalist for his NYC debut show, Life is Wonderful, which was recorded and available on CD. He has received acclaim for his Valley theatre appearances in shows such as The Drowsy Chaperone (AriZoni nomination), ...Forum, 9 to 5, Phantom and, most recently, as Max Bialystock in SMTC's The Producers.
SMTC plans to present an on-going series of cabaret-style events at TCA with an eye toward creating entertaining, intimate concerts featuring some of the Valley's best local talent.
