If you were fortunate to be in the opening night audience of Commonwealth Theater Company's (CTC) production of Blue Stockings, you had the privilege to witness not only a brilliant performance but also a pre-show panel discussion entitled 'Leadership, Representation, and the Impact of Women in Higher Education: Past, Present & Future' with Sadiqa Reynolds, President & CEO, Louisville Urban League, Inc., Tori Murden McClure, President of Spalding University, Kimberly Kempf-Leonard, Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Louisville, and CTC Outreach Director and production director Heather Burns. This discussion addressed the struggles of gender inequality and opportunity in the collegiate field. Diving into hard-hitting questions such as: is there room for all of us (all genders), and are women feeling more valued? while shedding light on the power of competence versus dominance, the panel provided a thought-provoking meditation for themes of suffrage and rights in Blue Stockings.
The fact that Broadway hasn't seen fit to provide a role for Lois Smith in over twenty years can be regarded as one of the top arguments denouncing the popular assumption that Times Square is where you go to take in the best of New York theatre.

This time thirty years ago Canadians were flocking to Calgary to celebrate the Winter Olympics. The nationally renowned director returns to Calgary this February to gather young Canadians who wish to continue telling Canada's story as singers, actors, and dancers.

There is an idea that Ancient Greece was an exemplary society. Even though they did build the foundation of western civilization and democratic ideals, especially when it comes to theatre. Yet the subjects of the plays are often war and it's devastating effects on humanity. This Commonwealth Theatre Center production of Euripides' The Trojan Women makes the point that the cruel, brutality of such conflict has always been, and will always be, a part of the human experience. It seems, tragic but inevitable.
If you heard today on CNN that Martians were invading a small town in New Jersey, would you believe it? Seventy-eight years ago, Orson Welles and his Mercury Theatre theatrical group made such a broadcast on CBS radio on Halloween Eve 1938. Welles took H.G. Wells' epic novel "The War of The Worlds" and made the story feel like a real news broadcast. The hoax created panic and fear in many towns around the nation as millions believed that Martians had invaded America.

While An American in Paris captures the dreamy glamour of old Hollywood, Simon McBurney rivetingly evokes its seedy, cynical underbelly, from backroom deals to drug busts and mobsters. Yet it is, in its own way, just as dazzling - a paean to Tinseltown myth-making as well as a blackly comic deconstruction.
Thomas Arnold, Heather Burns, Max Casella, Clint Dyer, Danny Huston, Ajay Naidu and Madeleine Potter cast in The Kid Stays in the Picture based on the life story of legendary Hollywood producer Robert Evans directed by Simon McBurney.
