According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC has renewed Nashville for a second season. The country music drama stars Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere. The series, which kicked off last November, is currently averaging 6 million total viewers.
Denver Center Attractions announces the 2013 nominees for The Bobby G Awards - the Colorado regional awards program for The National High School Musical Theater Awards. Fifteen public and private high schools in the seven Denver metro counties participated in the inaugural season. The awards ceremony, on May 30 at 7pm in The Seawell Grand Ballroom, includes performances from the shows nominated for outstanding overall production and honors outstanding achievements by students and educators made in the areas of performance, design, direction, choreography, technical production and overall production excellence.
Pittsburgh Public Theater's highly successful MADE IN AMERICA season concludes with Jon Robin Baitz's Broadway sensation Other Desert Cities, nominated for the 2012 Tony Award for Best Play. The Candie's Foundation created a national dialogue on May 1st, the National Day to prevent teen pregnancy. The Foundation's initiatives garnered over 200 million impressions with its message of teen pregnancy prevention. The Candie's Foundation partnered with Thunderclap, a social media platform that programs a tweet and Facebook post to be sent out automatically at a set time. The message, 2,000 teenage girls will get pregnant today. I stand with @CandiesOrg #NoTeenPreg was sent out by social media powerhouses: Chris Brown, Carly Rae Jepsen, Lucy Hale, Bella Thorne, Jenny McCarthy, Audrina Patridge, and others. The Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival, a production of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, is set to fulfill its mission of connecting the community to the arts this summer, June 7 - 16, 2013, in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The 10-day Festival is free and open to the public and presents high-quality and diverse visual and performing art attractions sprawling from the newly renovated Point State Park at the confluence of the city's famed three rivers, through picturesque Gateway Center, and into Pittsburgh's world-renowned 14-block Cultural District. During its vast and varied history, the Festival has featured more than 12,000 artists and entertained millions of residents and visitors, including an annual crowd of 400,000.
Amphibian presents the New York premiere of Matthew Greenbaum's Rope and Chasm, an evening-length work for mezzo-soprano and video animation based on Nietzsche's Also Sprach Zarathustra featuring Re'ut Ben-Ze'ev. It is made up of a series of episodes in which the mezzo sings with a pre-recorded musical score and interacts with numerous video characters, including a leech expert, a tightrope walker, and a half-mole, half-human 'spirit of gravity.' Greenbaum is both the composer and video animator. Rope and Chasm was premiered in its entirety by Network for New Music in Philadelphia, 2012.
CYT-North Idaho's Davey, from their upcoming spring musical, Great American Tall Tales, will be reading to children and performing at the Hayden Library, the Coeur d'Alene Library, and the Liberty Lake Library on May 8. Crockett will read from at 10:30 a.m. in Hayden; 1 p.m. in Coeur d'Alene and 4 p.m. in Liberty Lake. Davy Crockett and some of his fellow characters will also perform a musical number from the show and will be available for pictures.
