Pulitzer Prize-nominated playwright Rebecca Gilman will mark her 10th production at Goodman Theatre, her longtime creative home, with Swing State—directed by Tony Award-winner Robert Falls in their 6th collaboration over 35 years. Swing State appears October 7 – November 13 in the 350-seat flexible Owen Theatre.

Single tickets for nine shows in the Fabulous Fox Theatre’s 2022 – 2023 U.S. Bank Broadway Series will go on sale Tuesday, September 6 at 10:00 a.m. CT. But beloved as it may be, why in the ever-loving hell has it taken so long for To Kill A Mockingbird to become a theatrical play that is actually worthy of its literary heritage? Sure, there’s been a 1990 (?!) version by Christopher Sergel that’s made it way through every high school auditorium, community theater playhouse and reginal theater over the intervening three decades that we are, quite frankly, sick to death of it. In fact, if we never see it again, we’ve seen it far too often: a warmed over, treacly and maudlin rehash that’s far too dependent on the title’s movie roots to really emerge from a darkened theater to become a consummate American play.

Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation of Harper Lee’s classic 1960 novel TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD opened on Broadway in 2018. (Yes, that Aaron Sorkin). Directed by Bartlett Sher, the play transports the audience to Alabama in 1934, where Atticus Finch is representing a Black man falsely accused of sexual assault.

Tickets for the history-making production of To Kill a Mockingbird will go on sale Monday, August 8 at 10AM for the premiere Portland engagement at Keller Auditorium from October 18 – 23.

The Kimmel Cultural Campus has a masterful work currently playing at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, before heading out on the rest of its first national tour. Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation of Harper Lee’s to Kill a Mockingbird, directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher, is a powerhouse of a production that is filled to the brim with excellent direction, haunting score, and stellar performances.

Sarasota Opera announces an added title in its “HD at the Opera House” series with a screening of “Der Rosenkavalier” on Sunday, September 25. This historic Salzburg Festival production stars legendary soprano Elisabeth Schwarzkopf. Sarasota Opera also rescheduled a film of Verdi's Rigoletto to September 11 (from May) with tickets for these “HD at the Opera House” films on sale for $22, and $20 for Sarasota Opera subscribers.  

The world-wide phenomenon of BLUE MAN GROUP returns to Austin, playing Bass Concert Hall for a limited three performance engagement on October 28 and 29, 2022. BLUE MAN GROUP replaces BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL as a season add-on of Texas Performing Arts' Broadway in Austin 2022-23 Season.
