The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center honored multi-discipline creative artist Lin-Manuel Miranda with the 18th Monte Cristo Award, last night at a private dinner at the Edison Ballroom in New York City. An alumnus of the O'Neill, Miranda's first professional production was at the O'Neill's National Music Theater Conference with In The Heights in 2005. The gala dinner featured a conversation with the honoree and raised $575,000 to support the Center's commitment to developing new work and new artists for the stage.

On Monday, May 14, 2018, Third Street Music School Settlement (Third Street), the nation's longest running community school, will honor Grammy Award-winning Singer and Songwriter Rosanne Cash, Tony and Oscar Award-winner Joel Grey, and long-time Board Member and Award-winning Architect Byron Bell at its Annual Spring Gala. Graham Parker, President of Universal Studios Classical Music Labels, will serve as master of ceremonies and Lydia Fenet, Senior Vice President of Christie's Auction House will host the live auction. Members of the cast of SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical also will perform. Held at Capitale (130 Bowery) in New York City, the gala will bring together hundreds of luminaries from the arts, culture, education, media, business, finance and philanthropy worlds to pay tribute to the honorees for their contributions to and leadership in arts and music education. Funds raised through attendance, live and silent auction participation will help support Third Street scholarships and financial aid services. With its roots in the settlement movement, Third Street today serves more than 5,000 New Yorkers of all ages and backgrounds by providing high quality, accessible music and dance instruction in more than 25 instruments and voice. More than 75% of Third Street students receive financial aid or scholarships through the school's Partners program, which sends teaching artists into community centers and public schools throughout New York City. Alumni include well-known artists Bobby Lopez, Jessie Montgomery, Irving Caesar, among others. This year's honorees join a roster of previous honorees that includes The Roots, Sting, Yoko Ono, Harold Prince, Philip Glass, and Audra McDonald. Rosanne Cash will be presented with Third Street's Award for Distinguished Achievement in the Arts and Joel Grey will receive Third Street's Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts. Vocalist Rachel Ulanet, who has appeared on Broadway as Belle in Beauty and the Beast, as well as Lovemusik and King David,  makes her Feinstein's/54 Below solo debut with Keep Me Searching. Ulanet's funny and provocative reflection on our changing political and social landscape is supported by a strong and timeless repertoire. Performing music from Stevie Wonder, Kurt Weill, Bonnie Raitt, Michel Legrand and Neil Young, among others, Ulanet explores our shared experiences during these unusual times, and their effect on her life as an artist, mother and citizen. In Sweden circa 1900, the romantic entanglements of actress Desiree Armfeldt and others are revealed through Hugh Wheeler's book and Stephen Sondheim's lilting score, which was orchestrated by Jonathan Tunick. Suggested by a film by Ingmar Bergman and originally produced on Broadway by Harold Prince, the show introduced the world to the classic song, Send in the Clowns. 

Beginning Monday evening, April 30, Broadway's Jay Armstrong Johnson will make his PHANTOM debut, assuming the role of Raoul, the dashing vicomte vying for the heart of the innocent soprano, Christine.

The longest-running show in Broadway history, and one of the most successful worldwide stage productions of all-time, PHANTOM will welcome Broadway's Ben Crawford when he takes over the iconic title role beginning tonight, April 16, 2018 at The Majestic Theatre (247 West 44th Street).

In a new interview with The Guardian, Harold 'Hal' Prince has revealed that he is working on two more musicals at the age of 90. One is based on the documentary 'How to Dance in Ohio,' which is about a group of autistic children realizing their potential. The other musical is set in the 19th century and explores the roles and responsibilities of men and women.

Swedish musical theatre artist Anton Zetterholm is cast as Tony in the Swedish production of WEST SIDE STORY at Malmo Opera. The show is set to premiere autumn 2018. 

Carmen De Lavallade, John Kander, and Harold Prince will be honored at the 2nd Annual Chita Rivera Awards taking place at NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.

Villanova Theatre presents a staged reading of The Behavior of Light, written and directed by Broadway playwright and Hollywood screenwriter, Douglas Carter Beane. Perhaps best known for his screenplay To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar as well as his award-winning work on musicals Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, Sister Act, Xanadu and Lysistrata Jones, Beane is playwright-in-residence at Villanova University this spring. The acclaimed writer has been working alongside undergraduate and graduate students on a new play development process culminating in a public reading April 27-29, 2018. The Behavior of Light is sure to capture the hearts and imaginations of audiences far and wide.
