Paul Jost, the unique vocalist and arranger often described as a 'passionate storyteller', performs at Mezzrow Jazz Club, 163 W 10th St in New York, with his quartet on Tuesday, August 21, 8 and 9:30 p.m. shows. Paul is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and arranger but it is his work as a vocalist that makes him a standout. Performing music from his soon-to-be-released album, 'Simple Life,' he is joined by his quartet, the musicians on his album … Jim Ridl-piano, Dean Johnson-bass and Tim Horner-drums. Film Independent Selects Seven Writers For 2018 Episodic Lab

Film Independent, the non-profit arts organization that produces the Film Independent Spirit Awards and LA Film Festival, announced today the seven writers selected for its second Episodic Lab. The Film Independent Episodic Lab is supported by Lead Artist Development Funder the Time Warner Foundation and Founding Sponsor Netflix. Additional support is provided by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series presented the return of Broadway singer/actor Max von Essen in concert last night, July 23. Max von Essen, currently starring in the hit Broadway production of Anastasia, returned with his old fashioned, new show celebrating the best of Broadway and the American songbook. Once again, Billy Stritch was musical director for the evening, with Steve Doyle on bass, Daniel Glass on drums, and Mairi Dorman-Phaneuf on cello.

Over the past two weeks, the brand new Birdland Theater has been the place for some very special #friendsandfamily concerts, to prepare for this opening week, starring Lucie Arnaz. The space has a new stage, new sound and lights, new kitchen, new menu and a few new staffers, but the nine unadvertised shows went without a hitch.

The Bickford Theatre at the Morris Museum presents The Antoinette Montague Experience in concert on Thursday, July 26, as part of the popular Summer JazzFest, which combines food trucks and music for a fun summer evening. Antoinette Montague is an award-winning jazz and blues singer who performs all over the world, but has never forgotten her New Jersey roots. Joining Ms. Montague will be Ken Peplowski on sax and clarinet, “King” Solomon Hicks on guitar, Brandon McCune on piano, Melissa Slocum on bass, Bobby Sanabria on drums, and tap dancer AC Lincoln. The food truck picnic begins at 5:30 p.m. and the concert at 7:30 p.m.

The Bickford Theatre at the Morris Museum presents Danny Bacher and his All-Star Band in concert on Thursday, July 12, as part of the popular Summer JazzFest. The show, "Accentuate the Positive," draws on tunes from his soon-to-be-released "Still Happy" CD as well as his exciting salute to Louis Armstrong, Louis Jordan and Louis Prima from his best-selling debut CD. Danny will also premiere several new arrangements including a tribute to the great Johnny Mercer. The All-Stars will feature Harry Allen on tenor sax, Charlie Caranicas on trumpet, Allen Farnham on piano, Bill Moring on bass, and Alvester Garnett on drums. The food truck picnic begins at 5:30 and the concert at 7:30.
