City of Irvine Honors Pacific Symphony with Official Proclamation

At the Aug. 9 Irvine City Council meeting, Mayor Farrah N. Khan and members of the Irvine City Council made a formal proclamation honoring Pacific Symphony for its 35 years of service to the City of Irvine. The Symphony’s service began with the orchestra’s first concert at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre during the summer of 1987. The summer concerts have continued since and are currently at Irvine’s FivePoint Amphitheatre.

Meadowmount School of Music has awarded its inaugural Gurrena Fellowship, worth $50,000, to 25-year-old cellist Sydney Lee. The announcement was made at the final student concert of this year’s session, on August 10, at which Lee performed Schumann’s Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 1 in A minor, Op. 105.

Former Rhode Island Philharmonic Music Director Larry Rachleff Has Passed Away

Larry Rachleff, former Music Director of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, passed away on  August 8th in Houston, TX. He served as Music Director from 1996-2017 and conducted his final  concerts with the orchestra in May 2017, his farewell as Music Director. That concert featured his wife, mezzo-soprano Susan Lorette Dunn.
