Soprano Lisa Delan Performs at San Francisco Conservatory Tonight

Soprano Lisa Delan (class of 1989) will perform on the San Francisco Conservatory of Music's distinguished Alumni Recital Series tonight, February 11, 2015, at 8 p.m. Ms. Delan's program will include works by American composers John Corigliano, David Garner, Gordon Getty, Jake Heggie and Luna Pearl Woolf. She will be joined by special guests Matt Haimovitz, Christopher O'Riley and Jake Heggie. The concert, held at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music's Sol Joseph Recital Hall, is dedicated to the memory of pianist Kristin Pankonin (class of 1989), alumna and former staff pianist of the Conservatory.

American Composers Forum Announces Champion of New Music Award Winners

The American Composers Forum (ACF) Board of Directors has voted to present its 2015 “Champion of New Music” award to three outstanding recipients: the American Composers Orchestra, flutist and Director of the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) Claire Chase, and conductor Michael Morgan, at public ceremonies this year in Oakland, Brooklyn, and New York City.

Richard Goode Returning to Carnegie Hall for Series of Concerts & Master Class

Carnegie Hall presents the esteemed pianist Richard Goode in four concerts this winter and spring, beginning with two programs of chamber music in Zankel Hall, featuring performances with young musicians mentored by Mr. Goode at the Marlboro Music Festival. On Sunday, February 22 at 3:00 p.m., Mr. Goode is joined by soprano Sarah Shafer, violinist Itamar Zorman, violist Kyle Armbrust, and cellist Brook Speltz for a program to include Brahms's Piano Quartet No. 2 in A Major, Op. 26 and Schumann's Piano Trio No. 2 in F Major, Op. 80. Pianist Ieva Jokubaviciute joins Mr. Goode, Mr. Zorman, Mr. Armbrust, and Ms. Speltz on Thursday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m. for an all-French program with works by Debussy, Faure, and Ravel.

Columbia University School of the Arts Announces John Luther Adams as the Newest Recipient of the William Schuman Award

Columbia University School of the Arts is pleased to announce that John Luther Adams is the newest recipient of the William Schuman Award, a major recognition given periodically over the past three decades. Named for its first recipient, the award, in the form of a direct, unrestricted grant of $50,000, is one of the largest given to an American composer.

Miro Quartet Opens International Chamber Music Series Tonight

The dynamic Miro Quartet enjoys its place at the top of the international chamber music scene. Now in its second decade, this American quartet continues to captivate audiences with its startling intensity, fresh perspective, and mature approach. Founded in 1995 at the Oberlin Conservatory, the Miro Quartet met with immediate success, winning first prize at the 50th annual Coleman Chamber Music Competition in April 1996. In 2005, the Quartet received the Cleveland Quartet Award and was the first ensemble ever to be awarded the coveted Avery Fisher Career Grant. The first of five string quartets to perform on the International Chamber Music Series this season, the ensemble will perform a program that includes a newly commissioned string quartet by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Gunther Schuller.

JACK Quartet, Miranda Cuckson, Vox n Plux and More Perform World Premieres at The Italian Academy Tonight

The Italian Academy hosts the inaugural concert of *The Stefan Wolpe Fund featuring world premieres and works by Charles Wuorinen, Jonathan Dawe, Matthew Greenbaum and William Anderson tonight, October 30th at 8pm. Also on the program, a New York premiere for string sextet by Charles Wuorinen. Featured artists: JACK Quartet, pianist Steven Beck, Vox n Plux, violist Miranda Cuckson and cellist Jay Campbell. This concert was produced by Zaidee Parkinson and Alanna Maharajh Stone with generous support from *The Roger Shapiro Fund for New Music.

Mimesis Ensemble to Play Carnegie Hall, 10/27

The Mimesis Ensemble presents 'Beyond Boundaries,' a program featuring vocal works with a social commentary. The concert will explore songs from the 20th and 21st centuries which examine topics ranging from the ancient story of Gilgamesh, the Americanization of Japan in the 1850's to the Great Depression and the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960's.

David Amram's 84th Birthday Concert: Remembering Pete Seeger Set for Hillwood Recital Hall, 11/20

On Thursday November 20, 2014 at 7pm, Producer Jason Samel of Movement Music Records in association with Love Revolution and Gold Coast Arts Center presents 'David Amram's 84th Birthday Concert: Remembering Pete Seeger' at The Hillwood Recital Hall At Tilles Center on campus at LIU Post, 720 Northern Blvd, Brookville, NY 11548. Net proceeds will benefit the 501 (c)(3) not for profit Gold Coast Arts Center, a not for profit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the arts through education, exhibition, performance and outreach.

Andris Nelsons to Make BSO Music Director Debut Leading Gala Program, 9/27

On Saturday, September 27, at 8 p.m., the Boston Symphony Orchestra will shine a welcoming spotlight on Andris Nelsons as he makes his highly anticipated debut as BSO Music Director leading a gala program filled with works and guest artists that have inspired his musical life. When Mr. Nelsons takes on the title of BSO Music Director on September 27, at age 35, he will be the youngest conductor to hold that title with the orchestra in over 100 years. The fifteenth music director since the Boston Symphony Orchestra's founding in 1881, Mr. Nelsons is also the first Latvian-born conductor to assume the post.

The New England Philharmonic Announces 2014-15 Season

The New England Philharmonic (NEP), under the direction of Richard Pittman, has announced their 2014-15program, the 38th season of the volunteer orchestra. This season will include world premieres of two NEP commissions,David Rakowski's Dance Episodes Symphony no. 5 and Andy Vores' Violin Concerto No. 2; the world premiereof Bernard Hoffer's Ligeti Split; Boston premieres from John Harbison's Darkbloom: Overture for an ImaginedOpera and Michael Gandolfi's Night Train to Perugia and a performance of Benjamin Britten's rarely performedSpring Symphony featuring Chorus pro Musica and the Boston Children's Chorus.

Richard and Sharon Jenkins to Receive Trinity Rep's 2014 Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement; Ceremony Set for 6/9

Trinity Rep announced today that former artistic director and Academy-award nominated film, stage and TV actor Richard Jenkins and his wife Director/Choreographer Sharon Jenkins will be honored with the 2014 Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts. The theater also announced that nationally known dance educator and choreographer Mary Paula Hunter will receive the 2014 Charles Sullivan Award for Distinguished Service in the Arts. The 18th annual Pell Awards will be held on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Trinity Rep with a reception to follow next door at the Providence Public Library.
