The Miró Quartet returns to the Chamber Music Society of Detroit series Saturday, March 15, 8 PM with a program that spans four centuries of music, from 18th-century composer Josef Haydn to Ludwig van Beethoven to a work by American composer Gunther Schuller written in 2014 for the Miró Quartet.

The concert takes place at Seligman Performing Arts Center, located at 22305 West 13 Mile Road in Beverly Hills, on the campus of Detroit Country Day School. Tickets are $30 - $60 for adults and $15 - $30 for students, and may be purchased by phone at 248-855-6070 or online at www.ChamberMusicDetroit.org. Student rush tickets priced at $10 are also available at the box office on concert night one hour prior to performance.

Founded in 1995, the Miró Quartet takes its name from 20th-century Spanish artist Joan Miró, known for his highly imaginative and original surrealist works.

After winning first prizes at several prestigious competitions, including the Banff International String Quartet Competition and the Naumburg Chamber Music Competition, the Miró became the first ensemble ever to be awarded the coveted Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2005. Currently, the group serves as the quartet-in-residence at the University of Texas at Austin's Butler School of Music.

The Miró Quartet -- Daniel Ching and William Fedkenheuer, violins, John Largess, viola and Joshua Gindele, cello - performs on major chamber music series worldwide each season, and is praised consistently for its deeply musical interpretations, exciting performances, and thoughtful programming. Highlights of recent seasons include a sold out return to Carnegie Hall to perform Beethoven's complete Opus 59 Quartets (which they also recorded); collaborations with award-winning actor Stephen Dillane as part of Lincoln Center's White Lights Festival; and festival appearances at Chamber Music Northwest, Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival, Music@Menlo, and Ottawa ChamberFest.
