ATPAM, the Association of Theatrical Press Agents and Managers, commemorated its 90th Anniversary with a celebration at City Winery last night - Monday, October 1st. 

Everyone knows that being a stage manager is not easy--if you read BroadwayWorld's in depth look into their responsibilities, the job seems overwhelming. But it is also rewarding. It is 7:04pm on a Thursday. To the average audience member of THE COLOR PURPLE, the most important person waiting backstage is one of the above-the-title stars (Cynthia Erivo, Jennifer Holliday or Danielle Brooks). But those in the industry know that, at this particular moment, the most important person is a woman sitting stage right in front of three monitors. That woman, with a headset on and binder in front of her, is Stage Manager Sharika Niles. She is the one who will soon give the word to start the show. She is the one who tonight is in charge of 'calling the show.' She is the one who will dictate the show the audience sees by giving the word for a spotlight, sound effect, set movement, etc..

Universal Pictures Stage Productions, Working Title Films and Old Vic Productions celebrated the opening of the 2009 Tony Award-winning Best Musical Billy Elliot the Musical at the Durham Performing Arts Center. The show, currently playing through November 14, 2010, celebrated their opening week with a kickoff party at Pops, a local Durham restaurant, on Sunday evening. Joining the company were director Stephen Daldry, writer and lyricist Lee Hall, American Idol-runner up Clay Aiken along with other producers and show management.

The cast has been set for the Center Theatre Group's presentation of Douglas Carter Beane's Tony Award-nominated farce 'The Little Dog Laughed,' the second production of the Kirk Douglas Theatre's 2008-2009 season. 'The Little Dog Laughed' opens November 23, 2008, and continues through December 21. Previews begin November 16.
