The behind-the-scenes work of the Maltz Jupiter Theatre's artistic director, Andrew Kato, is helping to bring the Tony Awards world-class recognition. For the seventh year in a row, Kato spent his 2010 summer vacation in New York, working as the coordinating producer on the 64th Annual Tony Awards broadcast. And with the new arrival of two Emmy Awards for 2009 awards show, his hard work is paying off.
The June 2009 broadcast of the 63rd Annual Tony Awards was honored this evening with a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special - Dave Boone, Writer and Special Material Written by Paul Greenberg. As previously announced, the telecast was presented with the Emmy for Outstanding Special Class Programs - Ricky Kirshner, Executive Producer; Glenn Weiss, Executive Producer; and Neil Patrick Harris, Host; at the Creative Arts Emmys on August 21st.

Michael Ridel reports in the New York Post this morning that the Tony Awards may be taking up shop in a surprising location next year: specifically, the United Palace Theatre at 175th and Broadway. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, the Tony Awards will not be returning to its longtime home of 13 years at Radio City Music Hall come next year and have been in search of an appropriate replacement venue for some time. Radio City will be unavailable next year, as it will be housing a new Cirque du Soliel production.
