What did our critic think of GOLDA'S BALCONY at Shakespeare & Company? Golda Meir – Israel’s first, and so far only, female prime minister – was seen by some as the straight-talking grandmother of the Jewish people. In “Golda’s Balcony,” however, Tony Award-winning playwright William Gibson (1914–2008) makes clear that, even with her simple hairstyle, ever-present pocketbook and sensible shoes, Meir was anything but benign.
Don't miss Annette Miller as she returns to Shakespeare & Company in the iconic role of Golda Meir in Golda's Balcony. Experience the inspiring true story of the Russian immigrant-turned-American school teacher and fourth Prime Minister of Israel. Additional performances have been added, so get your tickets now!
Tickets are now available for J Stage Theatre's winter production of The Waverly Gallery. All performances will take place at the J Stage Theatre at the Maureen and Douglas Cohn Jewish Community Center, 13009 Community Campus Drive, Tampa. The show opens on Wednesday, January 26 at 7:00 PM and runs through Sunday, January 30.
THE WAVERLY GALLERY is nestled in front of a small hotel in Greenwich Village on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The proprietress, Gladys Green is a sweet, immaculate lady with a dazzling smile and a sunny, infectious demeanor. Widowed, and a retired attorney with too much energy to do nothing, Gladys found this small gallery near her home and has made it her own for these past 28 years.
It is a challenge to convey in words the power, importance and relevance of this production. Even harder still, the impact it has on audience members. What I can and will say is that it should not be missed and, be sure to be present and attentive to the inspiring message in the closing line.
Shakespeare & Company's season opens Memorial Day Weekend with Pulitzer Prize finalist The Waverly Gallery by Kenneth Lonergan, directed by Founding Artistic Director Tina Packer. This powerful story sheds a heartrending and humorous light on the effects of senility on a family. Performances run from May 23rd - July 14th in the Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre.
'The whole neighborhood is changing,' is the oft-repeated melancholy observation of the 85-year-old woman at the center of Kenneth Lonergan's 2001 Pulitzer-finalist, THE WAVERLY GALLERY.
'It's been such an exciting trip. It's just kind of amazing to think that we've been around this long.' Carson Merry Baillie, Founder of Atlantic Beach Experimental Theater (ABET), waxes nostalgic as she speaks about the community theatre she founded in 1992. In honor of ABET's 25th season beginning in September, ABET is presenting a staged reading of Kenneth Lonergan's THE WAVERLY GALLERY, which was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in 2001. The production is directed by long-time ABET actor and director Jack Barnard, who will also supply the narration for the evening's reading.
