Theatre Memphis Taps Broadway Classic with Opening Night Fundraiser

42nd Street taps its way across the boards at Theatre Memphis on the Lohrey Stage June 8- July 1, 2018. Opening night will be a fundraising event, $100 per person (will include a show ticket), cocktail buffet, open bar, live auction and opportunities to participate in 'prize pulls' that will include wine, jewelry and more. The event will begin at 6pm with the performance starting at 8pm. In this staple of American musical theatre, star-struck Peggy Sawyer arrives in New York City from Allenstown, PA, hoping to become a Broadway star herself.  Facing adversity, she learns about show business and discovers which relationships are most important in life.  Between setbacks and growth as both a performer and a young woman, she conquers the city as the cast tap dances into your hearts with iconic musical numbers including 'We're in the Money,' 'Lullaby of Broadway,' 'Shuffle Off to Buffalo,' and the title song, '42nd Street.'

BWW Interview: Jonathan Cake Talks THE GRONHOLM METHOD at Menier Chocolate Factory

Set in the offices of a New York City Fortune 500 company, four unsuspecting candidates embark on the most testing job interview of their lives. This taunt play - which premiered in Barcelona in 2003 to great critical acclaim, exposes the psychological depths people will go to in order to get what they want. In our age of reality TV game shows and tweeting US presidents, The Gronholm Method explores the human capacity to manipulate, lie and 'play the game' to get ahead.

BWW Album Review: Lesli Margherita Is Queen Of Her KINGDOM

The first thing you ought to know about Lesli Margherita is that her Twitter handle is @QueenLesli. Actually, that might tell you all you need to know about this always wry, deeply fabulous singer-actress who's become a staple of the theatre world over the course of the past decade: she's a diva and she owns it, but with a tongue-in-cheek dose of self-deprecation that invites us all in to the joke. In the live album of her Rule Your Kingdom show - recorded live at Feinstein's/54 Below - we get to listen in as she belts and banters through a rollicking set.

BWW Review: THE BIG THINGY at The Regal Theatre for Perth Comedy Festival

Not your typical comedy, The Big Thingy is quite unlike anything I've ever seen onstage before. The show sees performer Nadia Collins embody an orange, cardboard suited alien who lands on earth and must learn how to be human from her audience. Think Mr Bean if he was an alien from Classic Doctor Who, replete with a cardboard and tinfoil set and you're probably not too far off the mark.

BWW Review: JOKES MAGOTES at Regal Theatre for Perth Comedy Festival

Colin Ebsworth has been doing stand up for a decade now - no mean feat for someone so young. At 25 he has a cheeky and personable stage presence, comfortably spanning a range of topics from sex and relationships, to racial tensions abroad and at home, as well as a hilarious theory that Bunnings is secretly a cult.

BWW Review: THE BARBER OF SEVILLE at Lyric Opera Of Kansas City

Lyric Opera's production of 'The Barber of Seville' or 'The Useless Precaution' by Rossini opened Saturday evening at the Kauffman Center in the first of four performances. As is usual for the Lyric, this 'Barber' is slyly updated from the original 1816 version first performed in Rome.

BWW Review: WONDERLAND: ALICE'S ROCK & ROLL ADVENTURE at Rose Theater

I wish I could write everything I found beautiful or hilarious or imaginative in this show, but there isn't room. You need to jump down that rabbit hole and see for yourself. Yes, it's impossible to be perfect, but as Alice says, 'I believe in the impossible.' I'm already calling this as a nominee for several awards.

Photo Flash: First Look at LOCK AND KEY at VAULT Festival

BWW Review: Melanie Griffith Headlines Stage Adaptation of THE GRADUATE at the Laguna Playhouse

Golden Globe winner Melanie Griffith can now be seen on stage playing pop culture's most famous cougar, Mrs. Robinson---the infamous 'mom of a certain age' who uses her predatory sexuality to seduce a recent college graduate into entering a torrid affair---in a new production of THE GRADUATE, which continues its just-extended engagement at the Laguna Playhouse through March 25, 2018 in Laguna Beach, CA. On paper, the role seems like a perfect fit for the now 60-year-old star who has demonstrated prior success in playing sultry, seductive women. But in this production, the results---like the dysfunctional relationships that criss-cross in this play---aren't as well-matched as you'd hope it would be.

Circus & Science Take Flight In Acrobuffos' AIR PLAY At The New Victory Theater

Watch in absolute wonder as umbrellas take flight, balloons sprout minds of their own and shimmering silks ripple to the rafters in the modern spectacle Air Play, playing at The New Victory Theater from March 30 - April 15, 2018. With knowing smiles and suitcases full of surprises, the globetrotting Acrobuffos (Big Apple Circus, Waterbombs!) elicit gasps and giggles in equal measure as they animate airflow, goad gravity, and make buoyant, beautiful and really, really, really high art out of the very thing we breathe.
