If ever there were a time to make a strong argument in support of public broadcast television, today would be the day, as the vultures are circling. On February 20, the series Great Performances is set to air a filmed evening of the recent Sondheim Broadway revival of Company, which proves as a shining beacon for poor endangered PBS...

The Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts has released tickets for the inaugural Winter/Spring 2008 Season. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, winner of 15 awards including the Tony for Best Musical, will open the season January 11 - 27. Television and Broadway star Richard Kind will perform the starring role of Pseudolus.

The PBS series Great Performances is joining forces with Ellen M. Krass Productions to film the Stephen Sondheim / George Furth musical Company, directed by 2006 Tony Award winner John Doyle and starring Raúl Esparza during the matinee and evening performances on Saturday, June 30.

Variety reports that Company, which won the 2007 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, may be presented on PBS' 'Great Performances' series.
