Stephen Sachs will direct the Los Angeles premiere of Shining City, a modern-day ghost story from one of Ireland's most important young playwrights, Conor McPherson. Called 'an absolutely glorious new play... as close to perfection as contemporary playwriting gets' by The New York Times, Shining City will star Morlan Higgins, William Dennis Hurley, Kerrie Blaisdell and Benjamin Keepers. Performances take place September 19 through December 19 at The Fountain Theatre, with low-priced previews beginning September 12.

THE FIRST WIVES CLUB is getting a new wife. For personal reasons, Adriane Lenox will not be a part of the musical production. Tony Award nominee Sheryl Lee Ralph has stepped in to the role of 'Elyse'.

Pulitzer Prize-nominated play about two women writers at opposite stages of their careers is one of SCR?s best-known commissions and has achieved worldwide success. Directed by Artistic Director Martin Benson, Collected Stories will run from May 15 through June 14, 2009 on the Segerstrom Stage. Low-priced previews are available from May 15 through May 21. Variety reports that Broadway revivals of 'Bye Bye Birdie' and 'Merrily We Roll Along' are contenders for the 2009-10 season at the Roundabout Theater Company, with the 'Birdie' production potentially opening the newly rebuilt Henry Miller's Theater. Composer Stephen Sondheim has been talking up an upcoming Roundabout staging of 'Merrily,' his 1981 tuner penned with book writer George Furth, at public appearances. And Roundabout a.d. Todd Haimes has previously expressed his desire to produce the show.
