Las Vegas Philharmonic Celebrates Opening Night Today

The Las Vegas Philharmonic opens its 20th anniversary season today, September 15, 2018 at 7:30 pm in Reynolds Hall at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts with a program celebrating the works of Bernstein, Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky.  Music Director Donato Cabrera will host a pre-concert conversation in Reynolds Hall one hour prior to the performance (6:30 PM) for patrons who want to learn more about the history and meaning behind the music to be performed that evening.  Following the concert, the Philharmonic will celebrate its 20th anniversary at a special reception with wine, coffee and dessert on Reynolds Hall stage ($50 per person, tickets separate from concert).

The first ever collection of George Szell's Complete Recordings for Columbia Masterworks on 106 CDs is now available thanks to Sony Classical. The collection features symphonies, overtures and other orchestral works, concertos and chamber music, recorded from 1946 to 1969, 92 recordings remastered from the original analogue tapes using 24 bit / 192 kHz technology.

Introducing more education opportunities students, this year Ching-Yun Hu, Founder and Director of the Philadelphia Young Pianists' Academy (PYPA), has created a series of lectures with special guests that are open to the public. A highlight of the series is the return of the highly revered pianist Gary Graffman who will instruct three classes and industry professionals Jonathan Eifert and Pierre van der Westhuizen will focus on career planning, programming choices, using technology for publicity and more.

6th Annual Philadelphia Young Pianists' Festival Concert Dates and Times Announced

Ching-Yun Hu, Founder and Director of the Philadelphia Young Pianists' Academy (PYPA), announced the dates of their sixth annual artist and student concerts that are open to the public. Throughout the eight-day event, highly respected pianists such as Ching-Yun Hu, Simone Dinnerstein, Charles Abramovic, and Jerome Lowenthal will be performing. The festival will be held at the Academy of Vocal Arts, which is located at 1920 Spruce Street, Philadelphia from August 4 to August 12. There will be 20 outstanding PYPA youth pianists varying in age from 12 to 26 that will be participating and receiving the amazing opportunity to learn from numerous, world-renowned pianists and speakers. The Philadelphia Young Pianists' Academy (PYPA) will be celebrating its sixth year as an international event from August 5 through August 12, 2018. They are inaugurating a new home for the experience at the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts located at 1920 Spruce St in Philadelphia. There will be eight days of concerts by world-class pianists, master classes by some of the most highly respected pianists and professors and student concerts. Founder Ching-Yun Hu is pleased to expand the program this year with more concerts and a speaker series.

California Symphony Season Finale Includes Brahms, Sibelius, and A World Premiere

California Symphony presents season finale SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek on Sunday May 6th at 4pm. The concert sees Music Director Donato Cabrera reunite with internationally acclaimed and award-winning pianist Haochen Zhang, who performs the grand and virtuosic Brahms Piano Concerto No. 2. Also on the program is Sibelius' Symphony No. 3, plus the debut of Composer-in-Residence Katherine Balch's first commission for the California Symphony, like a broken clock. This is the final concert in the Symphony's 2017-18 Larger Than Life season, which has seen the California Symphony continue to buck industry trends, expanding audiences by 16% and increasing subscription sales by 14% over last year.

Jaap van Zweden To Lead New York Philharmonic on ASIA 2018 Tour

Music Director Designate Jaap van Zweden will lead the New York Philharmonic on the ASIA 2018 tour, March 8–18, 2018. The ten-day tour — Jaap van Zweden's first international tour with the Orchestra — will feature eight concerts in five cities. The Orchestra will perform in Beijing, Kyoto, Tokyo, Nagoya, and Taipei. The soloists on the tour are Beijing-born pianist Yuja Wang and Japanese-American violinist Ryu Goto.

The performances take place Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, March 2 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, March 3 at 8:00 p.m.
