On April 12 Invada Records in conjunction with Lakeshore Records will release All About Eve-Original Soundtrack, composed by double Mercury Music Prize-winner PJ Harvey. The 12-track album contains 10 original pieces of instrumental music as well as two new songs written by Harvey and sung by Gillian Anderson and Lily James. Harvey's score for All About Eve, is performed by herself, James Johnston and Kenrick Rowe, and uses Franz Liszt's 'Liebestraume' (a musical element of Joseph L. Mankiewicz's original 1950s classic film) as a musical touchstone, exploring the more somber and deeply psychological aspects of the story. The album is produced by PJ Harvey, with additional production and mixing from Adam 'Cecil' Bartlett.
Kerem Hasan will conduct the Beethoven Eroica Symphony performances on April 10-13, 2019, presented by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO). The 27-year-old British conductor will replace Louis Langree who is indisposed and has needed to withdraw from these concerts. The repertoire and soloist will remain as scheduled: Debussy's Prelude a l'apres-midi d'un faune; Szymanowski's Violin Concerto No. 1, featuring Christian Tetzlaff; and Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 "Eroica". This will mark Mr. Hasan's Canadian debut.
The Orchestra Now (TŌN) will perform the final concert in its Carnegie Hall season on Thursday, May 2 at 7 pm. The performance will showcase the New York City premieres of Joachim Raff's Psalm 130: De Profundis and Lera Auerbach's De Profundis (Violin Concerto No. 3) with internationally acclaimed violinist Vadim Repin, as well as EMI recording artist, soprano Elizabeth de Trejo. The U.S. premieres of these works will be performed by TŌN at Bard College's Fisher Center on April 27, and the program will be repeated on April 28.
The Left Coast Chamber Ensemble's (LCCE) 2018-2019 season culminates with Dorothea and Artemisia, a program featuring the world premieres of two original chamber operas, each inspired by the contributions of an extraordinary woman artist. The concert includes From the Field, a micro-opera by Christopher Stark illuminating the work of Depression-era photographer Dorothea Lange, and Artemisia, a dramatic operatic work by Laura Schwendinger based on the life of 17th century Italian painter Artemisia Gentileschi. The performances will be presented at Z Space, located at 450 Florida Street, San Francisco, on Saturday, June 1 at 7:30pm, and Sunday June 2, at 2pm.
TheatreWorks Silicon Valley continues its 2018/19 season with the World Premiere of Hershey Felder: A Paris Love Story, written and performed by piano virtuoso Hershey Felder, who shattered box office records at TheatreWorks with his acclaimed portrayals of Irving Berlin, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky. Now, Felder captures the life and music of Impressionist composer Claude Debussy, a visionary who proclaimed nature his religion, creating music of ravishing beauty, color, and compassion, from the sweeping "La mer" to the evocative "Prelude a l'apres-midi d'un faune" and the mystical "Clair de lune." Intertwined with Debussy's story, Felder for the first time shares his own deeply personal connection to the City of Light. The Tak cs Quartet returns to Segerstrom Center for the Arts on February 28, 2019 at 8:00pm.
