Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim, presents a costume and dance commission, Reid Bartelme and Harriet Jung, on Sunday, March 25 and Monday, March 26, 2018 at 7:30pm. Costume design takes center stage in these new works devised by designers Reid Bartelme & Harriet Jung in collaboration with their favorite clients and dance makers, Jack Ferver, Burr Johnson, Lar Lubovitch, Pam Tanowitz, and Gwen Welliver, danced by Reid Bartelme, Maggie Cloud, Jack Ferver, Russell Janzen, Burr Johnson, Harriet Jung, and Stuart.
Excerpts will be performed from An American Soldier, a new two-act opera based on the true story of Danny Chen, proud American and son of Chinese immigrants residing in Manhattan's Chinatown. After enlisting in the U.S. Army, Chen is welcomed in boot camp, but in Afghanistan, his own base becomes enemy territory as military hazing turns deadly, posing powerful questions about what it means to be an American. Librettist David Henry Hwang and composer Huang Ruo discuss their collaboration with James Robinson, OTSL Artistic Director, and Nancy Yao Maasbach, president of the Museum of Chinese in America, prior to the opera's World Premiere in Saint Louis. Excerpts performed by Fang- Tao Jiang, Andrew Stenson, and Guang Yang, accompanied by pianist Lachlan Glen.

2017 Regional Theatre Tony Award Recipient Dallas Theater Center (DTC) presents The Great Society at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre. Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim, presents Mozart in the Jungle: Inside the Music on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 3pm and 7:30pm. Audiences are invited inside the world of Mozart in the Jungle, the Golden Globe Award-winning television series set in the orbit of the fictional New York Symphony. The Amazon Original Series has featured performances by artists including Joshua Bell and Pl cido Domingo, who sang on a raft in a Venetian canal with fictional opera diva 'La Fiamma' (played by Monica Bellucci), and cameos by composers Nico Muhly and Caroline Shaw. At Works & Process, Shaw joins executive producer/series creator Paul Weitz, showrunner Will Graham and creative consultant Elena Park in a conversation that takes the audience inside the music. The program will feature performances of music originally created for the television series, including selections by Shaw and Muhly's Amy Fisher Aria, performed by Metropolitan Opera soprano Susanna Phillips. During a rare residency opportunity that spanned five months, McNamara created a one-of-a-kind work made in and for the unique architecture of the Guggenheim's Peter B. Lewis Theater. Audience members act as embedded witnesses to the three dance squads battling for dominance in each of the space's three zones: the Red Choir Loft, the Green Balcony, and the Blue Stage.
