Broadway icon. Award-winning star of stage and screen. Legendary leading lady Donna McKechnie has thrilled audiences worldwide in a showstopping musical theatre career. From starring in the original Broadway production of A Chorus Line - which earned her a Tony award - to a string of smash-hit musicals, the internationally renowned, triple threat talent has spent almost sixty years in the spotlight.
International Opera Superstar and Tony Award Winner Paulo Szot filled every inch of Feinstein's/54 Below with his glorious once in a lifetime baritone voice last night. Broadway's supper club was also filled to capacity with a passionate audience mesmerized by his cabaret performance which celebrated the music from Paulo's native Brazil. It was a brilliantly constructed show based upon the encounter of Frank Sinatra and Tom Jobim 50 years ago. Paulo went through the Antonio Carlos Jobim songbook with is thrilling voice and also an interesting narrative which analyzed the infectious Brazilian harmonics and rhythms. There were also some tunes from The Great American Songbook, and no romantic is ever the same after hearing Paulo Szot sing Rodgers & Hammerstein's This Nearly Was Mine from South Pacific.
Alan Cumming said it quite accurately ….'I've known Frances (Ruffelle) for almost 30 years but she never ceases to surprise and amaze me with the ways she reinvents herself, finding new levels of expression and excellence, always with total commitment and her signature sensual passion. I cannot wait to see what she does next.'
Over the course of each Broadway season, unexpected and unique storylines inevitably pop up. This morning, with the announcement of the 2019 Tony Award nominations, a number of new narratives have come to life.
Lyricist Mark Petty of Anderson & Petty continues hosting duties on these monthly showcases which are on the last Sunday of every month with Musical Direction by Henry Brennan.
Oh my god, I have literally nothing to say about Les Miz. Well, maybe not nothing... not literally! It's not gonna be hard to throw these out, I'll tell you that much. I have so many freaking Les Miz CDs and they all take up so much space at two--even three--discs a pop. The only one I ever really listened to in its entirety more than a couple of times was the Original London cast anyway.
Internationally renowned actor, writer, singer, producer, and director Ray Shell recently celebrated the 35th anniversary of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Starlight Express with a live Q&A and performance at Spoonfed New York Country. Last night, Mark William returned, with another encore performance of his critically acclaimed, sold-out solo nightclub debut 'Come Croon With Me' at The Green Room 42.

'Nowhere could you get that happy feeling when you are stealing that extra bow...'
Ms. Lorna Dallas has returned to NYC to steal an extra bow (or 3) after a lifetime of trodding the theatrical boards in London's West End, Australia, Germany, NY, on televison, and in Royal Variety performances. What a 'Glamorous Life'.
West End favourite Jenna Russell made a surprisingly belated solo concert debut at Leicester Square Theatre, but, judging by this entirely winning performance, she's a natural. Seth Rudetsky, unparalleled master of the format, was on hand to accompany and guide her through a superlative set-list, as well as draw out anecdotes both deliciously foul-mouthed and funny, and unexpectedly moving.
Andrea Wolff's I Can't Trace Time, a passionate and whimsical musical memoir, will play a show at downtown's alt-cabaret, Pangea, on Feb. 22nd, 2019 at 7pm.
