Artpark announces the return of Plasticiens Volants, the world-renown French street theatre group, and the United States premiere of their show -- Pearl: Secrets of the Sea -- on August 22. Known for their massive illuminated inflatables, Plasticiens Volants were previously featured in Artpark's 2017 season finale spectacle -- Big Bang. America's preeminent Pink Floyd tribute, The Machine, will also perform, playing two sets on the Amphitheater stage. Gates will open at 6PM and the performance will begin at 7:30pm. General admission tickets are $20 and are on sale now.

The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF), New York's premier French cultural and language center, today announced the 2019 Crossing the Line Festival, featuring 11 performances and a gallery exhibition from a geographically, generationally, and artistically diverse group of artists whose work transcends genres and boundaries. All performances are world, US, or New York premieres; they are united by their convention-breaking fearlessness as they confront topics from social injustice to personal demons. Many of the performances pay homage to legendary artists of our time and previous eras, while the theme of migration and its transformational effects on identity informs several others. The festival runs from September 12 to October 12. Ticket are available at crossingtheline.org.

The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF) honors the great French composer Michel Legrand, who died in January this year, with a special Cin Salon series devoted to his life and work. Curated by one of his longtime collaborators and greatest interpreters, singer and actress Melissa Errico, Summer of Michel Legrand brings together seven of his films from his best known triumphs such as The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and The Young Girls of Rochefort to lesser known gems such as the enchanting fairy-tale musical Donkey Skin. Screenings take place on Tuesdays in July at 4pm and 7:30pm in FIAF's Florence Gould Hall.

This spring through summer the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) presents Burning Bright: New French Filmmakers as part of its popular CinéSalon series. In what has become an annual highlight of the FIAF calendar, the 2019 edition of Burning Bright showcases recent noteworthy films by nine exciting young filmmakers. The screenings include seven US and NY premieres with introductions by figures from the film industry, as well as appearances from directors. It is organized by FIAF film curator Delphine Selles-Alvarez with Dana Kurylyk and runs every Tuesday from May 7 to June 25.

The new documentary film 'Ground War,' presented by Beyond Pesticides, will have its¬†New York City¬†premiere screening on¬†Saturday, April 6, 2019,¬†7:30pm¬†at Florence Gould Hall, 55 East 59thStreet,¬†New York, NY. The film is a moving depiction of a son's quest for answers about his father's cancer‚ÄĒwhich takes him into the world of doctors, scientists, pesticide regulators, victims of pesticide poisoning, activists, and land managers. The issue is exposure to pesticides used to manage lawns and playing fields and the father's exposure as an avid golfer. The son, who is the filmmaker, finds others on the same search for answers because of harm or death of a loved one, then finds a solution in the work of activists and organic land managers.
