Harlem Quartet with Pianist Aldo López-Gavilán Perform Jazz at WSU's Schaver Recital Hall This October

The Grammy Award-winning Harlem Quartet teams up with Cuban piano virtuoso and composer Aldo Lopez-Gavilan Today, October 21, 8 PM for a program of jazz standards plus original jazz compositions by Aldo Lopez-Gavilan.  The concert takes place at Wayne State University's Schaver Music Recital Hall, located at 480 W. Hancock (between Cass & Second Avenues) on the campus of Wayne State University.  Tickets, priced at $30 for adults and $15 for students, are available online atwww.CMSDetroit.org or by phone at 248-855-6070.

350 High School Students to Unite in BATTLE OF THE BARD Shakespeare Slam

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) joins forces with Chicago Youth Shakespeare (CYS) to engage 350 high school students from 40 public, private and parochial schools across the region in the first annual Battle of the Bard (BOTB)-inaugurated as part of the yearlong Shakespeare 400 Chicago.

Dance Theatre of Harlem Returns to the Auditorium Theatre

The acclaimed Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) gives three performances at the Auditorium Theatre on November 18, 19, and 20 with a program that includes System, a major new work by choreographer Francesca Harper. The work is supported by the New England Foundation for the Arts, and is inspired by the current social, political, and economic climate in the United States.System was choreographed in collaboration with Dance Theatre of Harlem dancers who used their own experiences as people of color for inspiration.  DTH Artistic Director Virginia Johnson told the Washington Post that System "addresses social justice issues in the Black Lives Matter era" and is "a very contemporary piece, but also very beautiful and uplifting.' A live string quartet performs composer John Adams' original music for the piece.

Brooklyn Actors Billy Magnussen, Michael Chernus, and More Speak Out on Poverty Through MTA Subway Poster Campaign

Actors Billy Magnussen, Michael Chernus, Will Rogers and Staceyann Chin have joined the Brooklyn Community Services (BCS) 2016 ONE Brooklyn Community MTA Campaign, which launched on September 7 in 36 Brooklyn subway stations, featuring stylized posters illustrating a diverse, hip and eclectic group of Brooklyn movers and shakers who are advocating for poor and low-income Brooklyn residents.

Dia de los Muertos Celebrations Coming to Segerstrom Center This Fall
