dick clark productions announced today that Participant Media and DreamWorks Pictures' Green Book, directed by Peter Farrelly and starring Viggo Mortensen, Mahershala Ali and Linda Cardellini, will receive both the “Hollywood Ensemble Award” and “Hollywood Screenwriter Award” at the 22nd Annual “Hollywood Film Awards,” which will take place on Sunday, November 4 at The Beverly Hilton. The TIFF 2018 People's Choice Award winner is written by Peter Farrelly, Nick Vallelonga and Brian Currie and is inspired by a true friendship that in 1962 transcended race, class and the Mason-Dixon line.

The Almeida Theatre today announces the full cast for Joe Hill-Gibbins's new production of Shakespeare's The Tragedy of King Richard the Second, with Simon Russell Beale in the title role.

Today, North Carolina-based quintet Rainbow Kitten Surprise unveiled details for their 2019 touring plans. The headlining run kicks off in Birmingham, AL, on January 25, and is highlighted by two-night stands at The 9:30 Club in Washington, DC (January 28-29) and Danforth Music Hall in Toronto, ON (February 4-5) as well as stops at legendary venues such as Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC (February 2) and Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN (February 24).  Presale for the 2019 tour begins on Tuesday, October 23, with the general on-sale starting Friday, October 26.   The announcement comes as Rainbow Kitten Surprise closes out the fall leg of their “Friend, Love, Freefall” tour, with most shows selling out.  Likewise, the spring leg of the tour saw all 38 dates sell out (50,000 tickets sold), featured 6 upgraded venues, and second nights added in New York (Brooklyn Steel), Los Angeles (The Fonda), and Atlanta (Terminal West).  For more ticket information and tour updates, please visit www.rksband.com/tour.

StageArt and Phoenix Productions have announced the professional premiere of Songs for Swingin' Lovers!, which will play at Prahran's Chapel off Chapel for two swingin', toe tapping and fever raising performances on October 20 and 30.

The Old Globe today announced the 2019 Summer Shakespeare Festival lineup, which will include two of Shakespeare's best-loved plays: the romantic comedy As You Like It, directed by Jessica Stone, will run June 16 - July 21, and love-filled tragedy Romeo and Juliet, directed by the Globe's Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein, August 11 - September 15. Both will play outdoors under the stars in the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre.

Several years ago, I attended a production of The Cherry Orchard. Before the show began, a castmate of mine from another production leaned over from the row behind me and whispered to me, almost conspiratorially, that 'Chekhov is.....challenging', with the apparent implication that she hoped the actors were up for the task (in my estimation, they were).

Philadelphia Theatre Company announces the director and full cast for the Pennsylvania premiere of Lynn Nottage's Sweat. This Pulitzer Prize for Drama winner explores Reading Pennsylvania's shrinking industrial economy and shares the fear, tragedy and hopefulness of a community being forced to accept inevitable change. The production will kick-off the first produced season under new Producing Artistic Director Paige Price. Justin Emeka directs a cast filled with local stars and Barrymore Award-winners who have earned extensive theatre, film and television credits. Sweat will run from October 12 to November 4, 2018 at Philadelphia Theatre Company's stage at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre, 480 S. Broad Street. During an annual event honoring their rich bluegrass heritage, Liberty Square: A Lester Flatt Celebration, the City of Sparta, Tennessee recognized the achievements of Josh Swift by inducting him into their Bluegrass Hall of Fame.   

Yesterday, October 15th at The Lotos Club (5 East 66th Street, New York City), the 2018 recipients of the biennial Horton Foote Prize, were celebrated for excellence in American theater. The 2018 Prize for Outstanding New American Play, presented to a work produced in the 2016-17 or 2017-18 seasons, was awarded to Cambodian Rock Band by Lauren Yee. The 2018 Prize for Promising New American Play, presented to a previously unproduced work, was awarded to India Pale Ale by Jaclyn Backhaus.

The Muse Project, in association with The Tank, presents Musings: a collection of Mini Muse presentations at The Flea Theater as a part of their Anchor Partnership. Musings runs from Monday, October 15th - Sunday October, 21st at The Flea's new home at 20 Thomas Street in Tribeca.
