Photo Flash: First Look at New Musical THE WOMAN WHO WENT TO SPACE AS A MAN

The Woman Who Went to Space as a Man - Part fact, part fever dream, and part musical, this captivating new work opens with Alice B. Sheldon - better known to sci-fi aficionados as author James Tiptree, Jr. - contemplating suicide. Dodging in and out of reality, the play, with a bold musical score, investigates gender, longing and creativity as self-exploration through one of the Science Fiction world's greatest literary tricksters. Sheldon was most notable for breaking down the barriers between writing perceived as inherently 'male' or 'female' and it was not publicly known until 1977 that Tiptree was, in fact, a woman.

BWW Interview: THE RIVALS at Bristol Riverside Theatre

Richard Brinsley Sheridan's The Rivals, a comedy of manners, did not receive a warm welcome in it's first performance at Covent Garden Theatre in 1775. After a rewrite, however, it captured the audience's hearts and funny bones, and has been delighting audiences ever since. A new musical version of The Rivals, with book and lyrics by Richard Kellogg and music by Stephen Weiner, will hit the stage at the Bristol Riverside Theatre October 30th under the direction of Eric Tucker. The Rivals is the story of a wealthy young woman, Lydia Languish, who will lose a portion of her wealth if she does not marry someone of whom her guardian, Mrs. Malaprop, approves. Between mistaken identities, scheming servants, and unintentionally misused words, The Rivals is sure to have audiences laughing. The all-star cast includes Harriet Harris, who has portrayed Bebe Glazer in Frazier, Mrs. Meers in Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Felicia Tilman in Desperate Housewives, among many other roles. BroadwayWorld recently had the opportunity to speak with Harris about her experience with The Rivals.

BWW Review: MAS COMMUNITY THEATRE'S ARSENIC AND OLD LACE IS KILLLER COMEDY at Carrollwood Cultural Center

Should you ever need to be a lodger in the warm and inviting Brooklyn home of sisters, Abby and Martha Brewster, and you are a male of any age, never admit to being someone without family ties or friends and even more importantly, no matter how delicious the wine is claimed to be, be a teetotaler. Even the tiniest sip of the sister's homemade Elderberry wine should never pass your lips, unless you want an unpleasant surprise and demise.

BWW Review: LA CENERENTOLA, Bristol Hippodrome

The music is magical, with all its coloratura, patter, and character from the principals, male chorus, and orchestra magnificently managed by Tomaš Hanus, but there's still some magic amiss in this staging from Welsh National Opera.

BWW Review: THE FEVER at Woolly Mammoth is a Positive, Communal Experience

600 Highwaymen's THE FEVER, which has made its way to Woolly Mammoth for a limited run after a national and international tour, is a collaborative piece requiring full audience participation. I can't say much about its content, as the slightest spoiler would either ruin the effect or fail to do the show justice. But I can say for certain that it's well worth experiencing as an exercise in empathy and a reminder that, yes, we're in this together. Are you intrigued?
