BWW Review: A WOMAN OF NO IMPORTANCE, Vaudeville Theatre

Dominic Dromgoole's new company Classic Spring kicks off its year-long celebration of Oscar Wilde with lesser-known 1893 work A Woman of No Importance. The premise is simple enough: a trial is undertaken on stage and the whole audience is the jury, voting after all the evidence has been presented.

BWW Review: REVOLT. SHE SAID. REVOLT AGAIN., Shoreditch Town Hall, 2 September 2016

I hope there's a time when we don't feel like Alice Birch's bold, blackly funny, uncompromising battle cry of a play is a necessary intervention. A time when we're not reeling from sexist Olympics commentary, relentless online attacks on women who dare to enter political debate, or the news that American swimmer Brock Turner served only three months in prison after raping an unconscious girl. A time when the play's explosive anger and bone-deep sadness isn't met by our own.

A statement from the producers said: “Two years ago, originating producer Michael Alden was ready to put the play on and the film came along and blocked its path. At the start of this year, we believed that enough time had passed between the film and our opening. This clearly was not the case. We are extremely proud of what we have accomplished. It is a production of genuine quality that has been critically and publicly acclaimed across the board.'
