The Lucille Lortel Theatre has purchased a three-story carriage house in Chelsea which will help support emerging artists, the creation of new theatrical works, and bolster New York’s iconic downtown theatre scene.

La MaMa has announced the lineup for the 18th annual La MaMa Moves! Dance Festival. Curated by Nicky Paraiso, the 2023 festival features new and recent works by 12 choreographers and companies with varied approaches to performance.

RADIO 477!, a new theatrical production about the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv in 1929 and today –  in collaboration with the prominent Ukrainian literary figure Serhiy Zhadan – will debut at La MaMa's Ellen Stewart Theatre (66 E. 4 St. in Manhattan), with performances beginning March 10 through March 19, it has been announced by Mia Yoo, La MaMa's artistic director.

As the theater community in NYC continues to get back on its feet following the pandemic, two new theaters have just been added to the mix as La MaMa re-opened its landmark theaters at 74A E. 4 St. – following a 3-year, $24 million renovation.

LA MAMA ETC will celebrate the re-opening of its landmark home 74A with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour of the refurbished building (open free to the public) on Thursday, February 9 at 11 a.m. at La MaMa.

Pan Asian Repertory and Poetic Theater Productions will host a conversation with Armed Service Veteran poets following the matinee performance of Memorial, by Livian Yeh, on Sunday, January 29th, 2023 at 2:30 p.m.

AKUTAGAWA is a stage portrait of Ryunosuke Akutagawa, father of the modern Japanese short novel and best known for In a Grove, the basis of Akira Kurosawa's landmark 1950 film Rashomon.  

Overtone Industries will present the World Premiere of ICELAND, a re-Creation Myth, an original multidisciplinary work of opera theater by O-Lan Jones and Emmett Tinley from March 24-April 2, 2023 at La MaMa.

La MaMa in association with The Public Theater's Under the Radar Festival presents THE INDIGO ROOM,  an immersive ritualistic theater and installation work by Timothy White Eagle and The Violet Triangle.

La MaMa ETC has announced a $250,000 matching grant from the actor and playwright Harvey Fierstein, one of La MaMa's most beloved and iconic artists, to help complete the renovation and historic restoration of La MaMa's landmark building at 74 East 4th Street.  The gift was announced by Mary Fulham, La MaMa's Managing Director.  

In an unprecedented collaboration, HERE, IndieSpace, New Ohio and Rattlestick have formed the West Village Rehearsal Co-Op located at 60-74 Gansevoort Street New York, NY 10014 in partnership with Community Board #2 (CB2), Aurora Capital Associates, and William Gottlieb Real Estate.

La MaMa and The Public’s Under the Radar Festival will present King Gilgamesh & the Man of the Wild, bringing to New York audiences a moving one-act production that fuses live music with storytelling to share co-creator’s Ahmed Moneka's personal journey as an Iraqi actor-refugee in North America.

From February 2 to 19, 2023 La MaMa will present the world premiere of Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theatre's puppet version of 'Audience' by Václav Havel, translated and directed by Vít Horejš.

On Sunday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m., LA MAMA will host PAINT2POWER,  the making of a large public art mural  at the company's Galleria in Manhattan.  The public is invited to participate.  Admission is free.

Launching its 46th Milestone Season, Pan Asian Repertory Theatre has announced as a tribute to the Chinese architect Maya Lin with deep respect for her courage and creativity, the titanic role of 'Maya' will be played by two actors - Angel Lin and Nancy Ma - in alternation for the world premiere of Memorial by Livian Yah.

Alpha Omega Theatrical Dance Company, founded in 1972, celebrates its 50th Anniversary with the premiere of Once Upon El Barrio, conceived and choreographed by Enrique Cruz DeJesus, Artistic Director since 1998.  Inspiration for his new work has come from the writings of Piri Thomas, poet and author of Seven Long Times, and Savior, Savior, Hold My Hand, and the best-selling autobiography Down These Mean Streets. 

Pan Asian Repertory Theatre has announced the lineup of its 46 th Milestone Season beginning in the new year with the world premiere of the new play Memorial by Livian Yeh, followed by celebrating Asian Heritage Month in May and closing the season with the return of the annual play festival NuWorks 2023.

PRIMARY STAGES will present additional programming for their Fall 2022 season, including readings, panels and talkbacks for their fall production peerless and the Creative Access Grant Recipients Reading Series.
