HBO Films Drama NATIVE SON, Based On The Classic Novel By Richard Wright, Debuts 4/6

The HBO Films presentation NATIVE SON, based on the classic novel by Richard Wright, will debut SATURDAY, APRIL 6 at 10:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on HBO, it was announced today by Len Amato, president, HBO Films. Directed by first-time director and renowned visual artist Rashid Johnson from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks (“Topdog/Underdog”), the drama had its world premiere in January at the Sundance Film Festival.

Up on the Marquee: KING LEAR, Starring Glenda Jackson

This season's new Broadway production of William Shakespeare's King Lear, starring two-time Academy Award winner, two-time Emmy Award winner, and 2018 Tony Award winner Glenda Jackson in the title role, will also star Tony Award winner Jayne Houdyshell, three-time Obie Award winner Elizabeth Marvel, Aisling O'Sullivan, Pedro Pascal, Tony Award nominee and two-time Drama Desk Award winner John Douglas Thompson, and two-time Olivier Award winner and Golden Globe Award winner Ruth Wilson.

The Secret City Announces the Return of the Annual Winter Solstice Celebration

Obie-Award winning performance group, The Secret City, announces their third annual Winter Solstice celebration, Today, December 22nd at 7pm. Special guest performers include Sally Ann Triplett (Sweeney Todd), Elizabeth Marvel (King Lear, House of Cards, Homeland), Leah Coloff (This Tree) and Rhiannon Catalyst (mixed media performance artist). Expect a night of art, music, community, joy and spectacle in the beautiful sanctuary of the historic Judson Memorial Church, in celebration of the darkest night of the year, the 'return' of the light in the night sky and the beginning of winter. Founder Chris Wells will emcee the event.

Featured readers include Ayad Akhtar, Billy Crudup, Jennifer Ehle, Jon Hamm, Elizabeth Marvel, Maggie Siff and John Turturro, among others.   

Fall Line-Up Announced For Public Forum And Public Shakespeare Initiative at The Public Theater

The Public Theater has announced the Public Forum and Public Shakespeare Initiative fall line-up that will explore the intersection of art, ideas, and action. Highlights of the upcoming season include the return of the monthly Civic Salon gatherings and Election Night Hootenanny, a closer look at Shakespeare's famous tyrants and the Mobile Unit's A Midsummer Night's Dream, our post-show Speaker Series following performances of Eve's Song and Wild Goose Dreams, and a collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center on the intersection of Shakespeare and the work of Duke Ellington.

HOMELAND's Eighth and Final Season to Premiere in June 2019

Today, SHOWTIME announced that the eighth season of its Emmy® and Golden Globe® winning hit drama HOMELAND will be the series' final season, and will premiere in June 2019. Starring Emmy, Screen Actors Guild® and Golden Globe winner Claire Danes and Emmy and Tony® winner Mandy Patinkin, production on the final 12 episodes will begin in early 2019 in a still to be determined location. The announcement was made by David Nevins, President and CEO of Showtime Networks Inc., at the Television Critics Association's Summer Press Tour.

PBS Honors Louisa May Alcott with 'The Woman Behind 'Little Women' Encore

A special encore broadcast of American Masters -- Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind 'Little Women' airs nationwide Sunday, May 20 at 10 p.m. on PBS (check local listings) and will be available to stream the following day on pbs.org/americanmasters and PBS apps. This special encore broadcast coincides with the premiere of Little Women on Masterpiece (Sunday, May 13 and 20 at 8 p.m. on PBS) as well as The Great American Read (Tuesday, May 22 at 8 p.m. on PBS), a new eight-part television and online series that explores America's 100 most-loved novels, including Little Women by author Louisa May Alcott.

Showtime's HOMELAND To End With Season 8, Confirmed by Clare Danes

According to Deadline, Clare Danes has confirmed today on Howard Stern's Sirius XM radio show that the hit series HOMELAND will end after the upcoming eighth season. The series is currently in it's seventh season on Showtime. In additional news, Danes' pregnancy is not expected to conflict with the shows production. Read more about it from Deadline here!
