BWW Interview: Janie Dee and Moronke Akinola Talk THE NICETIES at Finborough Theatre

Janie Dee and Moronke Akinola can currently be seen in The Niceties at the Finborough Theatre, which centres on the conflict between a university history professor and her student - a conflict that spreads from the academic to the personal. BroadwayWorld spoke with both actors about Eleanor Burgess's play, and what they want audiences to take away from seeing the show.

BWW Review: THE NICETIES, Finborough Theatre

Hailed by The New York Times as a?oebristlinga?? and a?oeprovocativea?? during its Off-Broadway run, Eleanor Burgess's abrasive The Niceties is exactly that. Janie Dee and Moronke Akinola take on the roles of history professor Janine and Zoe, her passionate student. During a meeting to review the latter's thesis, their conversation about trivial grammatical mistakes in the writing escalates to a complicated discussion on race. Matthew Iliffe directs the debate play, revealing systemic internalised racism and the ugly truth of standing on the middle ground.

NH Theatre Project Announces Adult Classes Including Comedy, Public Speaking, Yoga, And More

New Hampshire Theatre Project announces more upcoming workshops and classes, and this time they are for adults. Teaching Artist Stephanie Lazenby will launch a full year of her riotously popular adult comedy performance workshops, Couch to Mic, on Tuesdays beginning October 1. First Saturday Workshops - trainings for professionals, theatre artists and community members aligned with NHTP MainStage season - will kick off on October 5 with Let Your Light Shine: Becoming a Powerful Public Speaker. Writers Theatre Presents THE NICETIES

Writers Theatre, under the leadership of Artistic Director Michael Halberstam and Executive Director Kathryn M. Lipuma, continues its 2019/20 Season with The Niceties, written by Eleanor Burgess and directed by Marti Lyons. The Niceties runs November 6 a?" December 8, 2019 in the Alexandra C. and John D. Nichols Theatre at 325 Tudor Court, Glencoe.

Lauren Yee Is This Year's Samuel French Off-Off-Broadway Short Play Festival Honorary Festival Playwright

Samuel French's Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival (OOB), the nation's premier short play competition, is excited to announce that Lauren Yee (Cambodian Rock Band, The Great Leap, The Hatmaker's Wife) is this year's honorary festival playwright. Additionally, the distinguished lineup of judges will include Masi Asare, Eleanor Burgess, Clarence Coo, Vichet Chum, Chris Giordano, Keli Goff, David L. Kimple, Margaret Ledford, Emily Morse, Salem Tsegaye, Miriam Weiner and Alexis Williams.

New August To October Season Announced At The Finborough Theatre

The Finborough Theatre's Autumn season features three premieres, all discovered by the Finborough Theatre's Artistic Director Neil McPherson - another Finborough rediscovery from a classic British playwright, written in 1970, but never before seen in London, alongside two European premieres from female playwrights - a hit Off Broadway play from the United States, and a multi-award-winning new play from New Zealand/ Aotearoa.

Huntington Theatre Company's 2019 Summer Play Workshop Begins

The Huntington Theatre Company's annual Summer Workshop began rehearsals July 9 and will conclude in public readings of four new plays on July 20 and 21, 2019. The workshop allows selected members of the Huntington Playwriting Fellows program two weeks to focus on developing new plays. The workshop and public readings will take place in the South End at the Huntington's Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts, 527 Tremont Street, Boston.
